The ''Mahabharata'' is one of the two major Sanskrit literature, Sanskrit Indian epic poetry, epics of ancient India; it was composed by the sage Vyasa. Kuru Kingdom
Kuru (Sanskrit: ) was a Vedic Indo-Aryan peoples, Indo-Aryan tribal union in northern Iron Age India, Iron Age India, encompassing parts of the modern-day states of Haryana, Delhi, and some parts of western Uttar Pradesh, which appeared in the Middle Vedic period (c. 1200 – c. 900 BCE). The Kuru Kingdom was the first recorded State (polity), state-level society in the Indian subcontinent. Kuru (disease)
Kuru is a rare, incurable, and fatal Neurological disorder, neurodegenerative disorder that was formerly common among the Fore people of Papua New Guinea. Kuru is a form of transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (TSE) caused by the transmission of abnormally folded proteins (prions), which leads to symptoms such as tremors and loss of coordination from neurodegeneration. The term kuru derives from the Fore language, Fore word ''kuria'' or ''guria'' ("to shake"), due to the body tremors that are a classic symptom of the disease. ''Kúru'' itself means "trembling". It is also known as the "laughing sickness" due to the pathologic bursts of laughter which are a symptom of the disease. It is now widely accepted that kuru was transmitted among members of the Fore tribe of Papua New Guinea via Endocannibalism, funerary cannibalism. Kuru block is a CD block that forms an administrative division in the Lohardaga subdivision of Lohardaga district, in the Indian state of Jharkhand. History Lohardaga was made a subdivision of Ranchi district in 1972. Ranchi district was split into three districts namely Ranchi, Gumla and Lohardaga, in 1983. SS ''Kuru'' was a steam ship which sank on 7 September 1929 in the lake Näsijärvi, in Tampere, Finland. The sinking is still the most severe maritime disaster in Finnish lakes or rivers. It led to the loss of 136 lives, according to the passenger counts and the officers; most sources frequently list the death toll as 138. There were 150 passengers and 12 crew members. One of the drowned was the Member of the Parliament Ida Vihuri. The ship capsized due to heavy wind – 8 Beauforts (), and there were some claims of up to 11.5 Beauforts. The capsizing was mostly due to an overly-high centre of gravity; in 1927, a third deck level had been added without expert help or inspecting the balance of the ship. The big waves brought water onto the deck, and the water couldn't flow away. The wreck was raised in the same year and repaired; the ship had suffered only minor damage. Kuru is a former municipality of Finland, now part of the town of Ylöjärvi. Kuru is located in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Pirkanmaa region. Kuru lies north of Tampere. Kuru River
The Kuru River, or Chel River is a stream in the South Sudanese states of Western Bahr el Ghazal and Northern Bahr el Ghazal. It is a headwater of the Lol River. Course The Kuru or Chel River forms in the south of Western Bahr el Ghazal on the border with the Central African Republic. It flows north, passing the road that runs west to Deim Zubeir from Ibra on its east bank, and enters Northern Bahr el Ghazal. It is joined from the left by the Biri River at on the state boundary. The river passes Arroyo and joins a major tributary from the left around , just east of the Ashana Game Reserve.
