Kurt Frank Winter (April 2, 1946 – December 14, 1997) was a Canadian guitarist and songwriter, best known as a member of The Guess Who. Biography Winter was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Guess Who
The Guess Who are a Canadian rock band formed in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1965. The band originated in 1962 and achieved an international hit single with a cover of "Shakin' All Over" in 1965 under the name Chad Allan and the Expressions. After changing their name to The Guess Who, they found their greatest success in the late 60s and early 70s, under the leadership of singer/keyboardist Burton Cummings and guitarist Randy Bachman, with hit songs including "American Woman", "These Eyes", " No Time" and many others. During their most successful period, The Guess Who released eleven studio albums, all of which reached the charts in Canada and the United States. They may be best known for their 1970 album ''American Woman'', which reached no. 1 in Canada and no. 9 in the United States, while five other albums reached the top ten in Canada. ''So Long, Bannatyne'' is the eighth studio album by the Canadian rock band The Guess Who, released in 1971 by RCA Records. Background The album's title track includes the words:''So long Bannatyne, hello my Chevrier home.'' The album's packaging and title track illustrate a transition in the life of Guess Who guitarist Kurt Winter moving from the city to the suburbs. The front cover has the words "So Long, Bannatyne" and shows the band dressed casually around a red Chevrolet with a Manitoba license plate in front of The Bannatyne Apartments (located at 545 Bannatyne Avenue in the band's hometown of Winnipeg). The back cover has the words "Hello My Chevrier Home" and shows the band now dressed more formally with the same red Chevy in the back of a home located on Chevrier Boulevard, about 5 miles from downtown Winnipeg. ''The Best of The Guess Who Volume II'' is the fifth compilation album by the Canadian group The Guess Who. It was originally released by RCA Records in 1973, and contains recordings made between 1970 and 1973. Release history In addition to the usual 2 channel stereo version the album was also released by RCA in a 4 channel quadraphonic version on LP record and 8-track tape in 1974. The quad LP release used the Quadradisc system. In 1979, Pickwick Records reissued this album under license from RCA. This version omits the songs "Sour Suite" and "Guns, Guns, Guns". When RCA in Canada reissued this album on cassette in 1985, they used the Pickwick track listing. The first CD issue was released in 1992 by RCA. In 2019, the album was reissued in the UK by Dutton Vocalion on the Super Audio CD format. The disc also contains the 1972 album '' Rockin'''. ''#10'' is the eleventh studio album by the Canadian rock band The Guess Who. It was first released in 1973. The title comes from the fact that it was the band's tenth release for RCA Records. This number series includes both a live album and best-of compilation, but not the band's early recordings (prior to 1969) which were not recorded for RCA. Release history In addition to the usual 2 channel stereo version the album was also released by RCA in a 4 channel quadraphonic version on both LP and 8-track tape. The quad LP version was released using the Quadradisc system. The 2012 reissue by Iconoclassic marked the first time the album was made available on CD in the United States. It has upgraded sound quality compared to previous CD releases, and a previously unreleased, stripped-down mix of "Glamour Boy" without the sound effects and crowd noise.
