Kurt Gesell
Kurt Gesell (born July 8, 1941) is a former provincial level politician from Alberta, Canada. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1989 to 1993. Political career Gesell ran as a candidate for the Progressive Conservatives in the 1989 Alberta general election. He won the electoral district of Clover Bar holding it for the Progressive Conservatives in a hotly contested three-way race that saw all three candidates finish within 200 votes of each other. During his first term in office Gessell left the Progressive Conservative caucus and sat as an independent and broke party lines to vote against Bill 66 ''Members of the Legislative Assembly Pension Plan Amendment Act, 1993''. He also left the caucus for the lack of free votes and free speech in the legislature. Walt Buck
Walter Alexander Buck (December 16, 1930 – March 14, 2013) was a provincial politician and dentist from Alberta, Canada. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta (MLA) from 1967 to 1989. During his time in office he served in numerous party caucuses and as an Independent. Political career Buck ran for a seat to the Legislative Assembly in the 1967 Alberta general election. He won the electoral district of Clover Bar by a wide margin to hold it for the governing Social Credit Party of Alberta. While still a rookie MLA, Buck ran for the leadership of the Social Credit party in the 1968 leadership election following the retirement of longtime premier Ernest Manning. Buck survived the first round of balloting but distantly trailed Harry Strom and two other candidates to end in fourth place with 10.8% of the delegates. 1989 Alberta General Election
The 1989 Alberta general election was held on March 20, 1989, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. Many political observers were surprised by the early election call as less than three years had passed since the previous election. Premier Don Getty, in his second election as Progressive Conservative Party leader, led it to its sixth consecutive term in government, although supported by less than half the votes cast in the election. Despite losing a significant share of the popular vote, the PC's benefited from a split vote between the two main opponents Liberals and NDP. The 1993 Alberta general election was held on June 15, 1993, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. The Conservative government was re-elected, taking 51 seats out of 83 (61 percent of the seats) but only having support of 45 percent of voters. Muriel Ross Abdurahman (April 29, 1938 – December 22, 2013) was a politician from Alberta, Canada. She served in the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1993 to 1997. Political career Fort Saskatchewan Town Council Abdurahman was elected to Fort Saskatchewan town council in 1977. She was elected Mayor of Fort Saskatchewan in 1980 and 1983, and was the first Mayor of the City of Fort Saskatchewan following its incorporation as a city in 1985.
