Kuppathu Raja () is a 1979 Indian Tamil-language film, directed by T. R. Ramanna. The film stars Rajinikanth, Vijayakumar, Manjula Vijayakumar and Padmapriya. It is a remake of the 1972 Hindi film '' Do Yaar''. ''Kuppathu Raja'' was released in theatres on 12 January 1979, Pongal day along with Kamal Haasan's ''Neeya?''. Although it was appreciated for Rajinikanth's style and acting, the film became a commercial failure during its release. Gopishantha (26 May 1937 – 10 October 2015), better known by her stage name Manorama, also called Aachi, was an Indian actress, playback singer and comedian who had appeared in more than 1000 films and 5000 stage performances and several television series predomninantely in the Tamil language until 2015. She was a recipient of the Kalaimamani award. In 2002, Government of India awarded Manorama the Padma Shri for her contribution to the arts. Vasudevan (15 June 1944 – 20 February 2011), known as Malaysia Vasudevan, was a Malaysian-Indian playback singer and actor in Tamil cinema. Early life Malaysia Vasudevan's parents were from Palakkad. Chattu Nair of Ottappalam and Ammalu of Polpulli, along with their families migrated to British Malaya in search of a livelihood. After a few years, Chattu Nair married Ammalu in an arranged marriage. Vasudevan was born on 15 June 1944 as their eighth and youngest child. Gopalarathnam, known by his stage name Typist Gopu, was an Indian actor known for comedy and supporting roles. He acted in over 600 stage plays and 400 films.
