Kupiansk Urban Hromada
Kupiansk ( uk, Куп'янськ, ) is a city in Kharkiv Oblast, Ukraine. It serves as the Capital (political), administrative center of Kupiansk Raion. It is also an important railroad junction for the oblast. Kupiansk hosts the administrative offices of Kupiansk Urban Hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Until 18 July 2020, Kupiansk was incorporated as a city of regional significance (Ukraine), city of oblast significance and the center of Kupiansk Municipality. The municipality was abolished in July 2020 as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, which reduced the number of raions in the Kharkiv Oblast to seven. The area of Kupiansk municipality was merged into the Kupiansk Raion. Overview Kupiansk is located on the bank of the Oskil River. The Russian occupation of Kharkiv Oblast, officially the Kharkov Military–Civilian Administration, known in Ukrainian as Kharkiv Military–civilian administration, is an ongoing military occupation that began on 24 February 2022, after Russian forces invaded Ukraine and began capturing and occupying parts of Kharkiv Oblast, Ukraine. Kupyansky Uyezd (, ) was one of the subdivisions of the Kharkiv Governorate of the Russian Empire. It was situated in the southeastern part of the governorate. Battle Of Kupiansk
The Battle of Kupiansk was the third battle of the Ukrainian Kharkiv counteroffensive that began on September 8, 2022 and ended on September 16, 2022. A ''Financial Times'' article on 28 September depicted the battle as "The 90km journey that changed the course of the war in Ukraine." Background Kupiansk was occupied by Russian forces from 27 February 2022 to 10 September 2022. Although the Ukrainian army had destroyed a railway bridge to slow the Russian advance three days earlier, Kupiansk Mayor Hennadiy Matsehora, member of the Opposition Platform — For Life party, surrendered the city to the Russian Army in exchange for a cessation of hostilities, as the Russians threatened to take the city by force. Shevchenkove ( uk, Шевченкове, ) is an urban-type settlement in Ukraine in Kupiansk Raion, Kharkiv Oblast. The flag of Ukraine ( uk, Прапор України, Prapor Ukrainy) consists of equally sized horizontal bands of blue and yellow. The blue and yellow bicolour first appeared during the 1848 Spring of Nations in Lemberg, then part of the Austrian Empire. It was adopted as a state flag for the first time in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution by the Ukrainian People's Republic, the West Ukrainian People's Republic and the Ukrainian State.
