Kunnakudi Thiruvannamalai Mutt Adikam
Tiruvannamalai Adheenam or Kunnakudi Tiruvannamalai Mutt Adikam (also called Kunnakudi Tiruvannamalai Mutt Adikam or Kunnakudi Adheenam) is a Saivite matha, monastic institution based in the town of Kunnakudi in South India established during the 16th century. The Mutt is involved in inculcating Saiva Siddhanta philosophy, a branch of the Hindu sect of Saivism. The temple maintains and administers the Shanmughanathar Temple, Kunnakudi, Shanmughanathar Temple. The mutt emerged with popular socialistic views during the tenure of the 45th pontiff Deivasigamni Arunachala Desiga Adigal. The mutt is involved in social empowerment of the villages and is involved in social service for the villages in and around Kunnakudi. Kunnakudi
Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan (2 March 1935 – 8 September 2008) was an Indian classical music violinist and music composer. Early life Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan was born on 2 March 1935 and was trained by his father, Ramaswamy Sastry. He was the brother of Kunnakudi Subbalakshmi. Career The violin was his forte. He was known for his dexterity and subtlety in handling the violin, he catered not only to the music scholar but also to the layman. His play reflected his own different moods and the demands of his audience with whom he established and enjoyed a good rapport. He dwelled with ease and competence in the high as well as the low octaves. At the age of 12, he accompanied great stalwarts like Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar, Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer and Maharajapuram Santhanam in concerts. Thiruvaduthurai Adheenam
Thiruvaduthurai Adheenam is a Saivite Matha, mutt based in the town of Thiruvaduthurai in Kuthalam taluk of Mayiladuthurai district, Mayiladuthurai District, Tamil Nadu, India. The adheenam maintains the Mayuranathaswami Temple, Mayiladuthurai, Mayuranathaswami temple at Mayiladuthurai. As of 1987, there were a total of 15 Shiva temples under the control of the adheenam. Activities The Adheenam is involved in publishing Saivite literature, specifically ''Thevaram'' and ''Tiruvasakam'' and its translations. It is also involved in literary scholarship. Some of the prominent Tamil literary personalities like Meenakshi Sundaram Pillai had their tutorship in the Adheenam. Kundrakudi Adigal
Kundrakudi Adigal (11 July 1925 – 15 April 1995) was a Tamil orator and writer. He was a fervent Saivite Hindu. He has written many books about Saivism and Tamil Literature. Early life Kundrakudi Adigal was born in Thiruvaalappuththoor near Mayiladuthurai on 11 July 1925. His father name is Srinivasa Pillai. Mother name is Sornathammal. The name given to him by his parents is Aranganathan. He has two elder brother and one elder sister. Religious work In 1945 he joined Dharumapuram Mutt. Here he learned saivism, Tamil Literature. Later he joined Kundrakudi Thiruvannamalai Mutt. On 16 June 1952 he was appointed as 45th pointiff of the mutt. He introduced many reforms in the mutt such as abolishing caste based admission in the mutt. His statue installed posthumously at the mutt is garlanded on his birthday by the government of Tamil Nadu as a government function. Maruthu Pandiyar
The Marudhu Pandiyars (Periya Marudhu and Chinna Marudhu) were Diarchal Kings of Sivagangai, Tamil Nadu, India, towards the end of the 18th century. They were known for fighting against the East India Company. They were finally executed by the EIC after being captured by them. Childhood Periya and Chinna Marudhu, sons of Mookiah Palaniappan Servai was native of Mukkulam, near Narikudi which was 18 miles away from Aruppukottai. Shaiva Siddhanta () (Tamil: சைவ சித்தாந்தம் "Caiva cittāntam") is a form of Shaivism that propounds a dualistic philosophy where the ultimate and ideal goal of a being is to become an enlightened soul through Shiva's grace. It draws primarily on the Tamil devotional hymns written by Shaiva saints from the 5th to the 9th century, known in their collected form as '' Tirumurai''. Meykandadevar (13th century) was the first systematic philosopher of the school.
