''Kung Fury: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack'' is the soundtrack album for the 2015 Swedish short film ''Kung Fury'', released by Universal Music Sweden on July 8, 2015. It was composed by Swedish synthwave musicians Mitch Murder and Lost Years, with additional music by Patrik Öberg, Christoffer Ling, Highway Superstar, and Betamaxx. It was released on vinyl record on July 8, 2015. David Hasselhoff produced and starred in a music video of the song "True Survivor", which debuted on April 16, 2015. It features him interacting with the film's writer/director/star David Sandberg, interspersed with scenes from the film. Synthwave (also called outrun, retrowave, or futuresynth) is an electronic music microgenre that is based predominantly on the music associated with action, science-fiction, and horror film soundtracks of the 1980s. Other influences are drawn from the decade's art and video games. Synthwave musicians often espouse nostalgia for 1980s culture and attempt to capture the era's atmosphere and celebrate it. The genre developed in the mid-to late 2000s through French house producers, as well as younger artists who were inspired by the 2002 video game '' Grand Theft Auto: Vice City''. Mitch Murder
Johan Bengtsson (born 1980, known under his stage name Mitch Murder) is a Swedish electronic musician from Stockholm, known as one of the many artists that popularized the synthwave genre. His first EP, ''After Hours'', was released in 2009, followed by ''Current Events'' and ''Burning Chrome'' on Rosso Corsa Records in 2010 and 2011, respectively. Influences and style Bengtsson explained in an interview on his inspirations being "jazz, cheesy 1950s bossa nova, 1970s motown or 1980s pop", and mentioned Paul Hardcastle, Jan Hammer, and Vince DiCola as examples. Highway Superstar
Alex Karlinsky (known under his stage name Highway Superstar) is an Israeli record producer of synthwave music. Having been raised in the 1980s, Karlinsky says Highway Superstar is his attempt to recreate musical elements from the period, while combining them with modern production techniques and soundscapes. After several internet singles between 2012 and 2013, a full album was released via the USA/Canadian label Rosso Corsa Records.
