Kumho (South Hamgyong)
Kŭmho is a ''chigu'', or area, in South Hamgyŏng province, near the city of Sinp'o, North Korea. Kŭmho was part of Sinp'o until 1995, when it was made a special area under the direct administration of the province. In Kŭmho near Sinp'o in 1987 the building of first national nuclear plant was started by USSR but construction was cancelled in 1991 due to lack of funding and in 1993 then according to political reasons. Then this place was the site of a planned two reactors development which was to have been built by the Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organization (KEDO) with international support. Preparations and construction began in 1994 and 1997, but reactors was never completed. The last international workers were removed from the area in January 2006. Geumho River
The Geumho River flows through North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea, and drains into the Nakdong River. It rises in the hilly area of western Pohang, flows west for 116 kilometers before its meeting with the Nakdong in western Daegu. It drains an area of more than 2,000 square kilometers. Notable tributaries include the Sincheon, which flows north through Daegu. The name ''Geumho-gang'' means "river of the zither-shaped lake," a reference to its oxbow curve in northern Daegu. Much of the riverbank in Daegu has been transformed into parkland. Ecological conditions The Geumho has been among the most polluted rivers in South Korea largely because of industrial waste from nearby large-scale dyeing operations. This is especially important because the Geumho is a tributary of the Nakdong river. Samples of water have consistently received low grades on the water grading system of the Korean government. Geumho is a town, or '' eup'', in Yeongcheon, North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea. The township Geumho-myeon was upgraded to the town Geumho-eup in 1973. Kumho Asiana Group is a large South Korean ''Chaebol'' (conglomerate), with subsidiaries in the construction, leisure, and logistics industries. The group is headquartered at the Kumho Asiana Main Tower in Sinmunno 1-ga, Jongno-gu, Seoul, South Korea. As of 2014, the largest shareholder is Park Sam-koo, the third son of the company's founder, who stepped down as CEO in 2010. History After World War II, Park In-chon began a taxi service, based out of Geumnamno in Seo-gu, Gwangju. Kumho Petrochemical Co., Ltd. (abbr. KKPC; ) is a multinational chemical company based in South Korea, with headquarters in Seoul.
