Kumasi Airport
Kumasi Airport is a national airport in Ghana serving Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region. In 2021, the airport handled over 400,000 passengers making it the second busiest airport in Ghana after Kotoka International Airport in Accra. Kumasi International Airport is located 6 kilometres (4 mi) from Kumasi. It was changed from a military base to an airport in 1999. The airport has undergone several renovation and expansion projects to help push its status as an international airport. History Approval to start an airport in Kumasi by the then British government was obtained in 1940, even though the land acquisition documentation was completed and paid for in 1947. A taxiway is a path for aircraft at an airport connecting runways with aprons, hangars, terminals and other facilities. They mostly have a hard surface such as asphalt or concrete, although smaller general aviation airports sometimes use gravel or grass. Tamale Airport is an airport serving Tamale, a town in the Northern Region of Ghana. It is the third busiest airport in Ghana, with 207,216 passengers in 2021. History Upgrade to international status The Tamale Airport was temporarily upgraded to the status of an international airport, with all the necessary facilities. It gained international status in December 2008. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo ( ; born 29 March 1944) is a Ghanaian politician who has served as the president of Ghana since 7 January 2017. In 2020, he was re-elected for his second term, which will end on 6 January 2025. Akufo-Addo previously served as Attorney General from 2001 to 2003 and as Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2003 to 2007 under the Kufuor-led administration. Instrument Landing System
In aviation, the instrument landing system (ILS) is a precision radio navigation system that provides short-range guidance to aircraft to allow them to approach a runway at night or in bad weather. In its original form, it allows an aircraft to approach until it is over the ground, within a of the runway. Wa Airport is an airport serving Wa, a city in the Upper West Region of Ghana which is also its capital. The airport is operated by Ghana Airports Company Limited. It is the fifth busiest commercial airport in Ghana with 4,696 passengers passing through in 2021. History The land was acquired by the Government in the year 1958. Airlines and destinations The airport opened to scheduled commercial flight operations on 15 October 2019 with service by Africa World Airlines from Accra via Tamale using an Embraer 145 regional jet.
