Kumaran Ratnam
Kumaran Ratnam was a Ceylonese physician. He was the youngest son of Dr E.V. Ratnam founder of Ratnam Private Hospital (founded 1905) in Union Place, Colombo the oldest Hospital in Sri Lanka. A long-standing member of the Colombo Municipal Council from the Slave Island Ward, he was elected as Mayor of Colombo from January 1950 to December 1950. He had two brothers, Raja and Mahesa and two sisters, Leila and Nasam. He was married to Meena Coomaraswamy, and lived in Barnes Place, Colombo. Mangala Moonesinghe
Mangala Nath Moonesinghe (27 July 1931 – 23 July 2016) was a Sri Lankan lawyer and politician. He served as a Member of Parliament for Bulathsinhala electorate between 1965 and 1977, and the Kalutara electorate between 1989 and 1994. He was Sri Lankan High Commissioner to the United Kingdom from 2000 to 2002 and Sri Lankan High Commissioner to India from 1995 to 2000. Early life and education Born on 27 July 1931, the son of Sanath Moonesinghe, his paternal grandfather was Jacob Moonesinghe from Walgama, Matara married Dona Engeltina Hewawitharana, younger sister of Anagarika Dharmapala. Sri Lankan Tamils ( or ), also known as Ceylon Tamils or Eelam Tamils, are Tamils native to the South Asian island state of Sri Lanka. The Mayor of Colombo is the Mayor (and head) of the Colombo Municipal Council. The post was created in 1866 when the Colombo Municipal Council was established by the Legislative Council of Ceylon. The Mayor is assisted by the Deputy Mayor and a Municipal Commissioner. Since 1944 the majority of the mayors have been from the United National Party. Slave Island
Slave Island ( si, කොම්පඤ්ඤ වීදිය, ta, கொம்பனித்தெரு) also known as Kampong Kertel and Kompanna Veediya is a suburb in Colombo, Sri Lanka, located directly south of the Fort. The suburb contains Beira Lake, a large lake and its esplanade is visited by many for recreation. Slave Island is mostly a commercial area with hotels, shopping centres, street food stalls, and is known for its multicultural, especially Malay heritage.
