Kumar (actor)
Kumar (born Syed Ali Hasan Zaidi; 23 September 1903 – 4 June 1982), alternatively known as M. Kumar, was an Indian film producer and actor, who played character roles in Hindi cinema from early 1930s to early 1960s. He migrated to Pakistan in 1963. Personal life Kumar was born in an affluent family of Lucknow on 23 September 1903 and was fondly called "Mir Mujjan" at home. In 1939, Kumar married Jewish actress Esther Victoria Abraham popularly known as Pramila, who later went on to become the first Miss India in 1947. Before marrying her, Kumar already had a wife and children in Lucknow. In 1963, on the insistence of his extended family, Kumar left for Pakistan, much to the displeasure of his second wife, who decided to stay back in India. Like his wife, his daughter Naqi Jahan also became Miss India in 1967. Not much is known about the final decade of his life. Kumar breathed his last on 4 June 1982 aged 78. ''Puran Bhagat'' (Puran Bhakt) is a 1933 Hindi devotional biopic film from New Theatres Ltd. Calcutta. The film was Debaki Bose's debut direction in Hindi. The film starred K. L. Saigal, Uma Shashi, Kumar, Molina Devi, K. C. Dey and Tarabai. The film was based on a popular Punjabi devotional story of Puran Bhagat, which was a change for New Theatres from their regular films based on traditional Bengali stories, saints and novels. It was a "great success all over India". Synopsis After several years of penance and prayers a male child is born to King Silwan of Sialkot and his wife Queen Ichhara. Shaheed Ganj Mosque
Shaheed Ganj Mosque, originally named the Abdullah Khan Mosque ( ur, ), was a mosque in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. The Mosque was commissioned in 1722 during the reign of Mughal Emperor Muhammad Shah and built by Abdullah Khan construction was completed in 1753 during the reign of Ahmad Shah Bahadur. It was constructed next to the shrine of Pir Shah Kaku. Sikh rule began in 1762, the Gurdwara Bhai Taru Singh was built afterwards within the same grounds. The mosque site was under dispute during British rule, but was demolished by Sikhs on the night of 8 July 1935. ''filmindia'' is an Indian monthly magazine covering Indian cinema and published in English language. Started by Baburao Patel in 1935, ''filmindia'' was the first English film periodical to be published from Bombay. The magazine was reportedly run "single-handedly" by Patel, who wielded power through this medium to "make or destroy a film". Its most popular column was "The Editor's Mail" answered by Patel. The magazine featured film news, editorials, studio round-ups, gossip, and reviews of different language films, mainly from Hindi and regional cinema and affiliated reviews from Hollywood. His articles included siding with the lesser known cinema workers like the technicians, extras and stuntmen. Patel met the painter S. M. Pandit around 1938, and asked him to design the covers for ''filmindia''. One of Pandit's assistants, Raghubir Mulgaonkar, was also a designer in the same periodical. Baburao Patel
Baburao Patel (1904–1982) was an Indian publisher and writer, associated with films and politics. Career He was the editor and publisher of India's first film trade magazine, ''Filmindia'', the first edition of which was published in 1935. Baburao was also the founder and editor of a political magazine, ''Mother India'' (different from the magazine of the same name started by the Aurobindo group). He was elected to the Lok Sabha as the Jana Sangh candidate from Shajapur, Madhya Pradesh in 1967. ''Nek Pervin'' is a 1946 Indian- Hindustani-language film directed by S. M. Yusuf. The film stars Ragni in the titular role of Pervin, who faces all of her marital hardships given by her husband with patience. Ulhas and Yakub played the pivotal roles. ''Watan'' () is a 1938 Hindustani costume drama film directed by Mehboob Khan. Produced by Sagar Films (Sagar Movietone), the film had story by Mehboob Khan and Wajahat Mirza. The cinematographer, as for most Sagar films was Faredoon Irani. ''Al Hilal'' (Judgement of Allah) is a 1935 Urdu/Hindi costume drama film. It was the debut directorial venture of Mehboob Khan. He went on to become "one of the pioneer directors of Indian Cinema".
