Kulturverlag Kadmos (Kadmos Publisher)
The Kulturverlag Kadmos is a non-fiction and fiction publishing house founded in Berlin in 1995. History The publishing house was founded on 4 November 1995 by Wolfram Burckhardt and Martin Burckhardt. The publisher's name refers to Greek Mythology and is named after Kadmos, the son of Phoenicia King Agenor of Tyros: While searching for his sister Europe kidnapped by Zeus, Kadmos brought the Phoenician alphabet to Greece. In this respect, the publishing activity began with a presentation of the origins of the alphabet. In the early years, the focus was on translations, rediscoveries and rediscoveries. The initial programme included Daniel Paul Schreber's ''Memories of a Nervous Patient'', Charles Babbage's ''Passages from a Philosopher's Life'' and biographies of Walt Disney and Ada Lovelace. Martin Burckhardt
Martin Burckhardt (born 28 July 1957 in Fulda) is a German author and cultural theorist. Career As a young author he was engaged in the field of audio art, creating and producing experimental audio pieces, often in cooperation with composer and musician Johannes Schmoelling. Parallel to his artistic work his first theoretical sketches unfolded. As a consequence of his first book (''The Metamorphoses of Time and Space'') he started teaching at various universities, at Humboldt University, then at Free University Berlin. From 1997 to 2000 he worked as a curator for the Government of Hamburg, organizing Interface V, a symposium and exhibition of computer culture. Wolfgang Ernst
Wolfgang Hermann Wernher Ernst (born 1956 in Bonn, Germany) is a German lawyer and Regius Professor of Civil Law at the University of Oxford. Life Ernst studied from 1976 to 1980 at the University of Bonn and the Goethe University Frankfurt in Germany. He took his comprehensive examination in 1981 in Bonn and continued his studies 1981–82 at Yale University to achieve a Master of Laws (LL.M.). Thomas Elsaesser
Thomas Elsaesser (22 June 1943 – 4 December 2019) was a German film historian and professor of Film and Television Studies at the University of Amsterdam. He was also the writer and director of ''The Sun Island'', a documentary essay film about his grandfather, the architect Martin Elsaesser. He was married to scholar Silvia Vega-Llona. Alexander García Düttmann
Alexander García Düttmann (born 1961 in Barcelona) studied Philosophy in Frankfurt as a student of Alfred Schmidt and in Paris as a student of Jacques Derrida. Career After obtaining his PhD from Frankfurt, he spent two years at Stanford University as a Mellon Fellow. Georges Didi-Huberman FBA (born 13 June 1953) is a French philosopher and art historian. Biography Georges Didi-Huberman was born on 13 June 1953 in Saint-Étienne. He has been a scholar at the French Academy in Rome (Villa Medici) and resident in the Berenson Foundation of Villa I Tatti in Florence. Mercedes Bunz
Mercedes Bunz (born November 16, 1971) is Senior Lecturer in Digital Society at King's College London, and a German art historian, philosopher and journalist. Biography Early career Bunz studied philosophy and art history at the Freie Universität Berlin, after passing her final exams at the Celtis-Gymnasium secondary school in the German town of Schweinfurt in 1991. Together with Sascha Kösch, Riley Reinhold, and Benjamin Weiss she founded the Berlin music monthly '' De:Bug'' in 1997, becoming its co-editor and editor-in-chief from 1999 until 2001. She was awarded a scholarship by Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung, enabling her to graduate at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar writing about the history of the internet between the 1950s and the 1980s. Tilman Baumgärtel (born 1966, Würzburg, Bavaria, Germany) is a German author, media theorist, curator and journalist. Jan Assmann
Jan Assmann (born Johann Christoph Assmann; born 7 July 1938) is a German Egyptologist. Life and works Assmann studied Egyptology and classical archaeology in Munich, Heidelberg, Paris, and Göttingen. In 1966–67, he was a fellow of the German Archaeological Institute in Cairo, where he continued as an independent scholar from 1967 to 1971. Werner Abelshauser (born 24 November 1944 in Wiesloch near Heidelberg) is a German economic historian. Life Abelshauser studied economics at the University of Mannheim and graduated in 1970. He received his PhD at Ruhr University Bochum in 1973 with his dissertation on West German economy 1945–1948. In 1980 he was appointed as Professor for economic and social history in Bochum.
