Kulan, Kazakhstan
Kulan ( kk, Құлан, ''Qūlan''), named Lugovoe (Russian language, Russian: Луговое) until 1992, is a small town that is the administrative centre of the Turar Ryskulov District of the Jambyl Region of Kazakhstan. The train station in Kulan is located along the route that connects Taraz, Bishkek and Shu. On 23 May 2003, Kulan was at the epicentre of an earthquake that was estimated at 6.5–7.0 on the Richter scale. Famous Ukrainian boxers Wadimir Klitschko brothers, Klitschko and Vitali Klitschko brothers, Klitschko lived and studied at a school in Kulan as they were kids. Turar Ryskulov District
Turar Ryskulov ( kk, Тұрар Рысқұлов ауданы, ) is a district of Jambyl Region in south-eastern Kazakhstan. The administrative center of the district is auyl of Kulan. History By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Kaz. USSR dated March 4, 1938, Lugovsky district was separated from Merki District. At that time there were 27 collective farms and 2 state farms. They were united into 10 aul districts. Initially, there were 8 2662 hectares of farmland. Cereals were located on an area of 13 464 hectares, beets on 960 hectares and cotton on 1 550 hectares. In Soviet times, grain crops increased to 130 thousand hectares. Jambyl or Zhambyl Region ( kk, Жамбыл облысы, translit=Jambyl oblysy; russian: Жамбылская область, Zhambylskaya oblast), formerly known as Dzhambul Region (russian: Джамбульская область, Dzhambulskaya Oblast) until 1991, is a region of Kazakhstan. Taraz ( kz, Тараз, تاراز, translit=Taraz ; known to Europeans as Talas) is a city and the administrative center of Jambyl Region in Kazakhstan, located on the Talas (river), Talas (Taraz) River in the south of the country near the border with Kyrgyzstan. Bishkek
Bishkek ( ky, Бишкек), ), formerly Pishpek and Frunze, is the capital and largest city of Kyrgyzstan. Bishkek is also the administrative centre of the Chüy Region. The region surrounds the city, although the city itself is not part of the region but rather a region-level unit of Kyrgyzstan. Bishkek is situated near the Kazakhstan–Kyrgyzstan border.
