''Kudisai'' () is a 1979 Indian Tamil-language film directed by Jayabharathi. It is the first Tamil film made through crowdfunding. The film, based on the novel of the same name written by Jayabharathi's father D. Ramamoorthy, was released on 30 March 1979. Plot Cast Production ''Kudisai'' marked the directorial debut of Jayabharathi. It is based on the novel of the same name written by Jayabharathi's father Ramamoorthy for the magazine ''Kanayazhi''. Jayabharathi undertook a crowdfunding route to raise to distribute the film for screening, and to generate investment, he sold donation tickets and conducted programmes at government colleges while Rajasekhar, a friend of Jayabharathi, helped him arrange a camera on loan. Singer Ceylon Manohar also helped by conducting shows and a farmer in Padi Kuppam provided him with food during the shooting. This was the debut film of Robert–Rajasekar as cinematographers. Jayabharathi (director)
Jayabharathi is an Indian film director and screenwriter who has worked on Tamil films. Regarded as one of the pioneers of alternate cinema in the Tamil film industry, Jayabharathi has directed nine films across five decades. Career As a film student in the 1970s, Jayabharathi explored the idea of making films in an alternate genre in Tamil cinema and became one of the pioneers of the movement. His first film ''Kudisai'' (1979) was released after he undertook a crowd-funding route in order to raise Rs90,000 to distribute the film for screening, and in order to generate investment, he sold donation tickets and conducted programmes at government colleges. The film won critical acclaim upon release and has since been preserved at the National Film Archives. Robert–Rajasekar
Robert–Rajasekar was an Indian filmmaking duo consisting of Robert Asirvatham and S. Rajasekar. They were active in film direction and cinematography in Tamil cinema of the 1980s. The duo are regarded to have ushered a "new wave" in Tamil cinema. Career In the 1970s, Robert Asirvatham and S. Rajasekar graduated as cameramen from the Madras Film Institute. They debuted as cinematographers with ''Kudisai'' (1979), a low budget film directed by Jayabharathi, also from the institute. Robert–Rajasekar's next film was to be ''Naalai Ulagam Namadhe'', which was never completed. They were later hired to work in ''Oru Thalai Ragam'' (1980), which emerged a major success and a breakthrough in their career. The National Film Archive of India (NFAI) was established as a media unit of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in February 1964. It is was a member of the International Federation of Film Archives. In March 2022, it was merged with National Film Development Corporation. Objectives Its three principal objectives are: to trace, acquire and preserve for posterity the heritage of Indian cinema; to classify, document data and undertake research relating to films; to act as a centre for the dissemination of film culture.
