Kuckucksbähnel
The Cuckoo Railway (german: Kuckucksbähnel, literally "Little Cuckoo Railway"), in its early days the Elmstein Valley Railway (''Elmsteiner Talbahn''), is a 12.97 kilometre long branch line in the central Palatine Forest, which runs through the region of Neustadt/Kaiserslautern from Lambrecht to Elmstein. It was built primarily to support the local forestry industry. In 1902 the section to Sattelmühle was opened, initially just as an industrial siding. In 1909 it was extended to Elmstein and upgraded to a fully fledged branch line. Regular passenger services were withdrawn in 1960 - due to the sparse population of the region it had always played a secondary role. This was followed in 1977 by the cessation of goods traffic between Frankeneck and Elmstein. Since 1984 the line has been operated as a heritage railway. Goods trains still run as far as Frankeneck. Mannheim–Saarbrücken Railway
The Mannheim–Saarbrücken railway (german: Pfälzische Ludwigsbahn) is a railway in the German states of Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and the Saarland that runs through Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Neustadt an der Weinstraße, Kaiserslautern, Homburg and St. Ingbert. It is the most important railway line that runs through the Palatinate. It serves both passenger and freight transport and carries international traffic. The route was largely opened from 1847 to 1849 as the ''Pfälzische Ludwigsbahn'' (Palatine Ludwig Railway) between Ludwigshafen and Bexbach. The line is identical with the Ludwig Railway between Ludwigshafen and Homburg and it therefore often referred to as the ''Pfälzische Ludwigsbahn''. Lambrecht (Pfalz)
Lambrecht is a town in the Bad Dürkheim district in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany lying roughly 6 km northwest of Neustadt an der Weinstraße. It is the seat of the like-named ''Verbandsgemeinde''. Geography Location The municipality lies in the Palatinate, and indeed in the middle of the Palatinate Forest. It is crossed by the river Speyerbach. Speyerbach
The Speyerbach is a left tributary of the Rhine in the Palatinate part of Rhineland-Palatinate. In Speyer, the river split into ''Gießhübelbach'' and ''Woogbach''. The Woogbach changes its name to ''Nonnenbach'', then flows into Gießhübelbach shortly before the latter flows into the Rhine. Importance Although only classified as a river of the third rank under German river classification system, the Speyerbach is the largest river of the Anterior Palatinate. It is long; its catchment area is ; its discharge varies between . In extreme weather conditions with heavy rain in a short time, the discharge may be much higher; the highest peak was on 25 May 1978. Lambrecht (Pfalz) Station
Lambrecht (Pfalz) station is the station of the town of Lambrecht in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Deutsche Bahn classifies it as belonging to category 4 and it has three platform tracks. The station is located in the network of the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Neckar (Rhine-Neckar transport association, VRN) and belongs to fare zone 121. Its address is ''Bahnhofstraße 4''. It is located on the Mannheim–Saarbrücken railway, which essentially consists of the Palatine Ludwig Railway (''Pfälzische Ludwigsbahn'', Ludwigshafen– Bexbach). Hochspeyerbach
The Hochspeyerbach is a long river in the Palatinate forest in Rhineland-Palatinate and a left tributary of the Speyerbach. Course The Hochspeyerbach rises in the municipality Hochspeyer in the immediate vicinity of the swimming pool. In earlier times the river was dammed about from the source, and this reservoir was the swimming pool. The water of the newly reconstructed habitat spring pond is fed into a pipe system by an overflow drain. About east of the pond, the river flows freely again, to the east, parallel to the Palatine Ludwig Railway through the village of Hochspeyer. After crossing the railway loop connecting the Ludwig Railway to the Alsenztalbahn, it takes up the river Fischbach from the left.
