Košarkarski klub Krka (English: Basketball Club Krka), commonly referred to as KK Krka or simply Krka, is a professional basketball team based in Novo Mesto, Slovenia. The team competes in the Premier A Slovenian Basketball League and the ABA League Second Division. Krka play their home games at Leon Štukelj Hall. The club is a founding member and shareholder of the Adriatic Basketball Association. History 1948–2002 The first basketball club in Novo Mesto was founded in 1948. In 1983, the club won its first Slovenian national championship. After that, however, basketball saw a decline in Novo Mesto that lasted until the Slovenian independence in 1991. Soon, the team was climbing through the lower divisions and earned a promotion to the Slovenian First League in 1997, when it also took the name of its sponsor, Krka. The Premier A Slovenian Basketball League ( sl, 1. slovenska košarkarska liga), abbreviated as 1. SKL and known as the Liga Nova KBM due to sponsorship reasons, is the top-level professional men's basketball league in Slovenia. The league, operated by the Basketball Federation of Slovenia, consists of eleven clubs. The most successful team is Cedevita Olimpija with 19 titles. PBC CSKA Moscow (russian: ПБК ЦСКА Москва) is a Russian professional basketball team based in Moscow, Russia. The club is a member of the VTB United League, and was a member of the EuroLeague. PBC Lokomotiv Kuban (russian: ПБК «Локомотив Кубань») is a Russian professional basketball team based in Krasnodar. The club participates in the VTB United League. The team is one of the top tier basketball teams in Russia. The team's honour list includes a EuroCup championship in the 2012–13 season, and two Russian Cup victories in 1999-00 and 2017–18. FIBA EuroChallenge (called the FIBA Europe League in 2003–05, and FIBA EuroCup in 2005–08) was the 3rd-tier level transnational men's professional continental club basketball competition in Europe, from 2003 to 2015. It was organized and run by FIBA Europe. Košarkarsko društvo Slovan, commonly referred to as KD Slovan or simply Slovan, is a basketball team from Ljubljana, Slovenia. History The origins of the club are dating back to 1951, when Stane Urek suggested a formation of a basketball club in Poljane (KK Poljane), at one of Ljubljana's high schools. The club got its official permission to play on 13 April in the same year. After just two days, they organised their first tournament, at which they invited Rudar Trbovlje and Krka, both playing in the first national league. The team was also named KK Krim, KK Slavija, KK Odred, and finally KD Slovan – the name they have had until today.
