Kristina Höök
Kristina Höök (born 1964) is a Swedish computer scientist specializing in human–computer interaction and known for her work in somaesthetics. She is a professor in interaction design at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology. Education and career Höök earned a bachelor's degree in 1987 from Uppsala University, completed a Ph.D. in 1996 at Stockholm University, and earned a habilitation in 2002 from Stockholm University. She has been a researcher for the Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE) since 1990, and became a professor at Stockholm University in 2003. She moved to KTH in 2012. Books Höök is the author of the book ''Designing with the Body: Somaesthetic Interaction Design'', published in 2018 by the MIT Press. Her edited volumes include ''Designing Information Spaces: The Social Navigation Approach'' (with David Benyon and Alan J. Human–computer Interaction
Human–computer interaction (HCI) is research in the design and the use of computer technology, which focuses on the interfaces between people (users) and computers. HCI researchers observe the ways humans interact with computers and design technologies that allow humans to interact with computers in novel ways. A device that allows interaction between human being and a computer is known as a "Human-computer Interface (HCI)". As a field of research, human–computer interaction is situated at the intersection of computer science, behavioral sciences, design, media studies, and several other fields of study. Somaesthetics
Somaesthetics is an interdisciplinary field of inquiry aimed at promoting and integrating the theoretical, empirical and practical disciplines related to bodily perception, performance and presentation. Etymology The term ‘somaesthetics’ was coined by the American pragmatist philosopher Richard Shusterman in 1996 through the compounding of “soma”, an expression derived from the Greek word for body, and “aesthetics”, a word derived from the Greek ''aesthesis'', meaning ‘sensory perception’. Shusterman has reported in a number of his works that he chose ‘soma’ over more familiar terms “to avoid problematic associations of body (which can be a lifeless, mindless thing) and flesh (which designates only the fleshly parts of the body and is strongly associated with Christian notions of sin)” and to emphasize that the project “concerns the lived, sentient, purposive body rather than merely a physical body”. ERCIM Cor Baayen Award
The Cor Baayen Award is an annual award given to a promising young researcher in computer science and applied mathematics. In 1995, the award was created to honor the first ERCIM (European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics) president. As a young researcher award, nominees must have obtained their PhD in the three years before the yearly nomination deadline. A researcher can be nominated for the award only once. The award is presented as a check for 5000 Euro and a certificate. The awardee is then invited to ERCIM meetings the following autumn.
