Kristin Merscher
Kristin Merscher (born in 1961) is a German classical pianist and professor at the Hochschule für Musik Saar in Saarbrücken, Germany. Life Born in Frankfurt, Merscher began her studies at age eight with Karl-Heinz Kämmerling at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover. From 1977, she continued her studies at the Conservatoire de Paris with Pierre Sancan and (from 1980 until 1982) with György Sebők at the Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington, Indiana. She has performed with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and the Munich Philharmonic, and gave solo performances throughout Europe, North America, and in the Far East. In addition to broadcast and television productions, she has recorded piano concertos with various orchestras, solo repertoire, and chamber music, along with cellist Maria Kliegel. In 1990, she was appointed as professor of piano at the Hochschule für Musik Saar in Saarbrücken.

Hochschule Für Musik Saar
The Hochschule für Musik Saar is a conservatory of music in Saarbrücken, Germany and dates back to 1947. From 1994 until 2002, it was named ''Hochschule des Saarlandes für Musik und Theater'' (University of Music and Drama Saarbrücken). Since 2012, the rector is Prof. Wolfgang Mayer. As of 2019, approximately 450 students are enrolled and taught by 150 teachers in courses and classes for musicians and music teachers. History and Location The Hochschule was founded in 1947 as "Staatliches Konservatorium Saarbrücken," following the model of the Conservatoire de Paris. In 1971, the Hochschule moved into the newly opened building at Bismarckstrasse near the city center. Three years later, a new organ by Klais Orgelbau for the main auditorium was dedicated. Maria Kliegel
Maria Kliegel (born 14 November 1952) is a German cellist. Professional career Kliegel was born in Dillenburg, Hesse. She studied under Janos Starker starting at the age of 19. She won first prize at the American College Competition, First German Music Competition and Concours Aldo Parisot, and was also the Grand Prize winner at the second Mstislav Rostropovich International Cello Competition in 1981. Russian composer Alfred Schnittke recognized her interpretation as the standard recording of his work when she recorded his First Concerto for Cello and Orchestra in 1990. On top of this, she has done many recordings for Naxos, including concertos and other cello works by Beethoven, Bloch, Brahms, Bruch, Dohnányi, Dvořák, Elgar, Lalo, Saint-Saëns, Shostakovich, Schumann, Tavener and Tchaikovsky. Marek Janowski
Marek Janowski (born 18 February 1939 in Warsaw) is a Polish-born German conductor. He is currently chief conductor of the Dresden Philharmonic. Childhood Janowski grew up in Wuppertal, near Cologne, after his mother traveled there at the start of World War II to be with her parents. His father disappeared in Poland during the war. Career Janowski served as music director in Freiburg and at the Dortmund Opera conducting the Dortmunder Philharmoniker, the latter from 1973 to 1979. From 1983 to 1987 he was principal conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. He served as ''Kapellmeister'' of the Gürzenich Orchestra in Cologne from 1986 to 1990. ''Carnaval'', Op. 9, is a work by Robert Schumann for piano solo, written in 1834–1835 and subtitled ''Scènes mignonnes sur quatre notes'' (Little Scenes on Four Notes). It consists of 21 short pieces representing masked revelers at Carnival, a festival before Lent. Schumann gives musical expression to himself, his friends and colleagues, and characters from improvised Italian comedy ('' commedia dell'arte''). ''Papillons'' (French for "butterflies"), Op. 2, is a suite of piano pieces written in 1831 by Robert Schumann when he was 21 years old. The work is meant to represent a masked ball and was inspired by Jean Paul's novel ' (''The Awkward Age''). The suite begins with a six-measure introduction before launching into a variety of dance-like movements. Arpeggione Sonata
The Sonata for Arpeggione and Piano in A minor, D. 821, was written by Franz Schubert in Vienna in November 1824. The sonata is the only substantial composition for the arpeggione (which was essentially a bowed guitar) extant today. The sonata was composed in November 1824, about a month after he had returned to Vienna from his second stay in Zseliz. It has been adapted to other string instruments, especially the cello.
