Kristiansund (, ; historically spelled Christianssund and earlier named Fosna) is a municipality on the western coast of Norway in the Nordmøre district of Møre og Romsdal county. The administrative center of the municipality is the town of Kristiansund (established in 1742), which is the major town for the whole Nordmøre region. Other notable settlements in the municipality include the villages of Kvalvåg, Rensvik, and Nedre Frei. The municipality is the 333rd largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. Kristiansund is the 52nd most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 24,013. Nordlandet
Nordlandet is an island in Kristiansund Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The island is located just east of the city center of Kristiansund, and is one of the boroughs of the city. The island is home to Kristiansund Airport, Kvernberget, which is named after the nearby tall mountain Kvernberget. This is the largest of the islands that make up the city of Kristiansund (the others being Kirkelandet, Innlandet, and Skorpa). Norwegian National Road 70 connects the island to the city of Kristiansund and south to the mainland. Grip Municipality
Grip () is a former municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. With a land area of only and a population of 104, Grip was the smallest municipality in Norway during its existence from 1897 until it merged with Kristiansund in 1964. Grip municipality included all the islands in the Grip archipelago. The administrative centre of the municipality was the one fishing village in the municipality, known as Gripholmen, where the historic Grip Stave Church is located. Kirkelandet
Kirkelandet is an island in Kristiansund Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The island is split in two by the ''Vågen'' inlet, with the western half called ''Kirkelandet'' and the eastern half called ''Gomalandet''. The name of the island means "church land", since it has been the historic site of a church. Today, Kirkelandet Church is located on the western part of the island. This is the main island of the city of Kristiansund, with the island of Innlandet to the southwest, the island of Nordlandet to the southeast, and the island of Skorpa to the east. Nordmøre
Nordmøre (English: North- Møre) is a traditional district in the Norwegian county of Møre og Romsdal. The area comprises the northern third of the county including the municipalities of Kristiansund, Averøy, Tingvoll, Surnadal, Aure, Halsa, Eide, Sunndal, Gjemnes, and Smøla. The only town in Nordmøre is Kristiansund. Nedre Frei is a village in Kristiansund Municipality in Møre og Romsdal County, Norway. The village is located along the Freifjorden on the southern part of the island of Frei. The village sits about south of the village of Rensvik and about southwest of the village of Kvalvåg. Nedre Frei is the site of Frei Church, the main church for the island. Bremsnes Municipality
Bremsnes is a former municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1897 until its dissolution in 1964. Bremsnes municipality surrounded the Bremsnesfjorden and it included parts of the islands of Averøya, Frei, and Nordlandet. Bremsnes essentially encircled the town of Kristiansund on the west, south, and east sides. The administrative centre of Bremsnes was the village of Bremsnes, where Bremsnes Church is located.
