Krista McFarren
Krista McFarren (born 15 April 1961) is a former American rugby union player and athlete. She was a radiologist in the United States Air Force and rose to the rank of Lt. Colonel before she retired from active duty in 2001. Biography McFarren began her athletic career in field hockey and earned a field hockey scholarship to Indiana State in 1978. She excelled not only in field hockey, but in badminton and softball as well and was named Indiana State Woman Athlete of the Year in 1982. She was a GTE Academic All-American and graduated cum laude in 1983 with a Bachelor of science degree in medical technology and a minor in mathematics. After graduating from Indiana State, she was admitted to the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences where she earned her Doctor of Medicine degree. Rugby Union
Rugby union, commonly known simply as rugby, is a close-contact team sport that originated at Rugby School in the first half of the 19th century. One of the two codes of rugby football, it is based on running with the ball in hand. In its most common form, a game is played between two teams of 15 players each, using an oval-shaped ball on a rectangular field called a pitch. The field has H-shaped goalposts at both ends. 1994 Women's Rugby World Cup
The 1994 Women's Rugby World Cup was the second world cup for women. It was originally scheduled to be held in Amsterdam, Netherlands (April 10–24) but was cancelled only weeks before. However, a replacement competition was organised around the same dates in Scotland. England beat the defending champions USA 38–23 in the final. Background The official reason for the cancellation was that the event organisers failed to get official endorsement of the event as the "Women's World Cup" from the International Rugby Board (IRB). The minutes of the 1993 Interim meeting of the IRB state the following about the "1994 Women's International Tournament": :"The Council agreed to defer consideration of participation by member unions in the tournament until such time as a formal request is received from the organizers." Allen, Texas
Allen is a city in Collin County in the U.S. state of Texas, and a northern suburb of Dallas. According to the 2020 U.S. census its population was 104,627, up from 84,246 in 2010. Allen is located approximately twenty miles (32.2 km) north of downtown Dallas and is a part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. 2010 Women's Rugby World Cup
The 2010 Women's Rugby World Cup was the sixth edition of the Women's Rugby World Cup and was held in England. The International Rugby Board Executive Committee selected the host union following a recommendation from the Rugby World Cup Limited board after considering bids from the Rugby Football Union and the German Rugby Union – it had been England's third successive bid after being rejected in 2002 and 2006. The tournament was again being organised by the International Rugby Board (IRB) as opposed to the host union, and included five matches for all teams played on 20, 24, 28 August and 1 and 5 September. 2006 Women's Rugby World Cup
The 2006 Women's Rugby World Cup (officially IRB Rugby World Cup 2006 Canada) took place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The tournament began on 31 August and ended on 17 September 2006. The 2006 tournament was the third World Cup approved by the IRB, the previous two being held 2002 in Spain and in the Netherlands, in 1998. The Black Ferns of New Zealand won the 2006 World Cup, defeating England in the final, as they had in 2002. It was New Zealand's third successive title. The semi-finals were also direct repeats of the 2002 tournament – in fact five of the top six places in the final rankings were unchanged. The 2001 Hong Kong Women's Sevens was the fourth edition of the tournament and was held on 28–30 March. New Zealand won the tournament after defeating the United States 22–10. Additional information The tournament also incorporated an Asian Group with Kazakhstan, Hong Kong and Japan also playing in the main competition. It is possible that the first matches for the Asian teams were knockout to see who would proceed into both the Asian Semi-finals and the main competition but this is not confirmed. United States Women's National Rugby Sevens Team
The United States women's national rugby sevens team competes in international rugby sevens competitions. The team finished second at the 2015 USA Women's Sevens, after defeating Russia in the semifinals. They competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Emil Signes held tryouts to pick a team to compete in the first Women's International 7s tournament to be held during the Hong Kong 7s event. Many of these players went on to compete for the USA Women's 7s Team in the Hong Kong 7s Women's Division.
