Krishnaswami Subrahmanyam
K. Subramaniyam (20 April 1904 – 7 April 1971), born Krishnasamy Subramaniyam, was an Indian film director of the 1930s and 1940s. Dancer Padma Subrahmanyam is his daughter. Biography Subramanyam was involved in the establishment of the Tamil film industry. He was born in a Brahmin family. He started his film career as a scenarist and producer, working on P. K. Raja Sandow's silent films such as '' Peyum Pennum''. He started Meenakshi Cineton with Alagappa Chettiar, directing his first film '' Pavalakkodi'', in which the Tamil film star M. K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar debuted. He made a shift with the politically emphatic ''Balayogini'', criticizing the caste system prevalent then. In 1938, he made ''Sevasadanam'', advocating a better deal for women, the saint film ''Bhaktha Chetha'', critiquing untouchability and the war effort film '' Maanasamrakshanam''. Papanasam
Papanasam is a panchayat town in Thanjavur district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located from Thanjavur and from Kumbakonam. Untouchability
Untouchability is a form of social institution that legitimises and enforces practices that are discriminatory, humiliating, exclusionary and exploitative against people belonging to certain social groups. Although comparable forms of discrimination are found all over the world, untouchability involving the caste system is largely unique to South Asia. The term is most commonly associated with treatment of the Dalit communities in the Indian subcontinent who were considered "polluting". ''Barthruhari'' is a 1944 Indian Tamil language historical drama film produced by K. Subrahmanyam, who co-directed it with C. S. V. Iyer. The film stars Serukalathur Sama and B. Jayamma, with G. Pattu Iyer, N. S. Krishnan, V. N. Janaki and T. A. Mathuram in supporting roles. Based on the life of the king Bharthari, it was released on 13 April 1944 and failed commercially. ''Ananthasayanam'' (''Leaning posture with the head rested on one's hand'') is a 1942 Tamil language film produced by and starring Krishnaswami Subrahmanyam in the lead role. Subrahmanyam co-directed the film with C. S. V. Iyer. The film also featured S. D. Subbulakshmi and M. V. Rajamma as the female leads with G. Pattu Iyer and V. N. Janaki playing supporting roles. Plot Diwakarar (Subrahmanyam) is a devotee of Vishnu in the form of Anantha Padmanabhaswamy. He is forced by to marry his niece Sarasa (Janaki). Usha Kalyanam
''Usha Kalyanam'' is a 1936 Tamil-language film directed by K. Subramaniam. The film starred S. D. Subbulakshmi, C. V. V. Panthulu and G. Pattu Iyer in lead roles. As was the practice of that time, another film titled ''Kizhattu Maappillai'' was also screened along with this film. N. S. Krishnan and T. A. Mathuram featured in this short film. Plot The film is based on the Hindu mythological tale of Aniruddha, the grandson of Krishna. Aniruddha and Usha, the daughter of the demon Bakasura fall in love with one another. Bakasura does not assent to their love and imprisons Aniruddha. Aniruddha is saved by Krishna who defeats Bakasura and liberates Aniruddha. Bakasura, eventually, patches up with Krishna and conducts their marriage. ''Naveena Sarangadhara (நவீன சாரங்கதாரா)'' is a 1936 Tamil film directed by K. Subramanyam, K. Subramaniam under Murugan Talkies. Naveena in Tamil means modern. The film was titled thus in order to distinguish itself from the earlier versions and also in order to highlight the slight modifications made to the original story. The cast includes M. K. ''Naveena Sadaram'' is a 1935 Tamil language film directed and produced by Krishnaswami Subrahmanyam. The film featured S. D. Subbulakshmi in the lead role. The film is an adaptation of the Kannada stage play ''Sadarame''. Papanasam Sivan was in charge of both the score and lyrics respectively. Plot A woman named Sadaram (S. D. Subbulakshmi) disguises herself as a man to escape from the clutches of a petty thief (G. Pattu Iyer). She encounters a princess (Parvathi Bai) who falls in love with the man unaware that 'he' is also a woman. Both Sadaram and another woman are in love with a prince (Vidwan Sankaralingam). The Nadigar Sangam ( en, Actors' association), officially known as the South Indian Artistes' Association (SIAA), is a union for film, television, and stage actors in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, based in Chennai. Formed in 1952, the group has a charitable trust fund to provide pensions to retired actors, voice support for actors caught in controversy, and have collectively protested socio-political issues. Elections in the Nadigar Sangam, which is made up of over 3000 members, are held once every three years to determine the president of the group. R.
