Kris Stewart
Kris Stewart (born February 9, 1967 in Portsmouth) is the founding chairman of English football club AFC Wimbledon and a left wing political activist. He was the club's chief executive and is also a CIMA past finalist management accountant. Under his leadership, AFC Wimbledon achieved numerous milestones including their first ever match, a friendly against Sutton United, as well as their first competitive game in the Combined Counties League away at Sandhurst, and a sell-out game against Chipstead at Kingsmeadow. Kris Stewart is Chief Executive Officer of QMusic, the peak body for live music in Queensland and producer of BIGSOUND, Australia's largest live music industry event. Between 2013 and 2021, he was Artistic Director at Brisbane Powerhouse, a multidisciplinary arts and cultural precinct in Brisbane, Australia. Biography Stewart was born in Adelaide, South Australia and grew up in Salisbury East, South Australia. Kingsmeadow is a football stadium in Norbiton, Kingston upon Thames, London, which is used for home matches by Chelsea Women and Chelsea U21s. It was formerly the home of Kingstonian F.C. and AFC Wimbledon and has a capacity of 4,850, with 2,265 seats. International Socialist Network
The International Socialist Network (ISN or IS Network for short) was a short-lived revolutionary socialist organisation in Britain. It was formed as a split from the Socialist Workers Party in 2013 following the alleged rape scandal concerning former National Secretary, Martin Smith. According to the group's Autumn 2014 Discussion Bulletin, it was "a tendency within Left Unity". The ISN also participated in unity talks involving other organisations, some of which are involved in Left Unity, including Workers Power, Socialist Resistance, Anti-Capitalist Initiative and Revolutionary Socialism in the 21st Century (RS21). It published regular 'internal' bulletins that are also publicly available, and one issue of a proposed journal, 'Cactus'. 2008 London Assembly Election
An election to the Assembly of London took place on 1 May 2008, along with the 2008 London mayoral election. The Conservatives gained 2 seats, Labour gained one seat, the Liberal Democrats lost two seats, and UKIP were wiped out. Notably, a candidate for the British National Party (BNP) was elected for the first time. The Assembly is elected by the Additional Member System. Left List
The Left List, later renamed the Left Alternative, was a political party active in the United Kingdom between 2008 and 2010. A minor party, it never had any of its candidates elected at any level of UK government although it inherited several local councillors who had defected to it from the Respect Party. The Left List arose from a schism in the left-wing Respect Party in 2007. Various Respect members had been affiliated with the Socialist Workers Party (SWP), a far-left, Marxist group, and this had proved a cause for concern among other party members. In 2008 the SWP-affiliated members split and formed the Left List. The new party took part in the 2008 London mayoral elections and London Assembly elections, where it received under 1% of the vote. The Socialist Workers Party (SWP) is a far-left political party in the United Kingdom. Founded as the Socialist Review Group by supporters of Tony Cliff in 1950, it became the International Socialists in 1962 and the SWP in 1977. The party considers itself to be Trotskyist. Cliff and his followers criticised the Soviet Union and its satellites, calling them state capitalist rather than socialist countries.
