Carol Kreeger Davidson
Carol Kreeger Davidson (17 May 1929 – 16 June 2014) was an American sculptor known for her Postminimalist style and technique of bending, folding, and bolting material rather than welding. Life Carol Kreeger was born in Chicago, Illinois and attended the University of Chicago before transferring her credits to Northwestern University where she graduated with a B.A. in literature. She moved to Hartford, Connecticut after marrying Donald Davidson. In 1959 she broke her back in a horse back riding accident. While in the hospital for nearly a year, friends brought her art books as entertainment. The books inspired her to study art and she began to study sculpture privately with Wolfgang Behl before completing her B.F.A. ''cum laude'', with honors in sculpture, from University of Hartford Art School in 1967. In 1974 she completed her M.F.A. from Rhode Island School of Design. David Lloyd Kreeger
David Lloyd Kreeger (1909–1990) was an American art philanthropist, recipient of the 1990 National Medal of Arts Award. Personal data Kreeger was born in 1909 to Jewish parents who emigrated from Russia, settling in Highland Park, New Jersey, where they operated a small grocery store He died in Washington DC at the age of 81, following a battle with neck cancer. He lived on Foxhall Road N. W. with his wife Carmen nee Matanzo y Jaramillo (1909–2003) since 1968. The couple had two children: a girl, Carol, and a boy, Peter. The mansion was designed by architect Philip Johnson and became a showcase for his collection. It cost $1.9 million to build. Kreeger Museum
The Kreeger Museum is a modern and contemporary non-profit art museum located in Washington D.C. It is located in the former home of David Lloyd Kreeger and Carmen Kreeger and it contains the art collection they acquired from 1952 to 1988. Architecture The building was designed in 1963 by Philip Johnson with Richard Foster, and sits on five and a half wooded acres in Northwest DC. Collection The Kreeger collection comprises mainly works from the 1850s to the present. The Impressionists are represented by nine Claude Monet paintings, as well as works by Auguste Renoir, Alfred Sisley, and Camille Pissarro. From his early work to the end of his life, Pablo Picasso's career can be traced through his paintings at the Kreeger.
