Kraumur Music Fund is an independent Icelandic music fund and operation established by thAurora Charity Foundationin the beginning of 2008 ''"to strengthen Icelandic musical life, primarily by supporting young musicians in performing and presenting their works."'' Kraumur Awards
Kraumur Awards is a music prize, organized by the Kraumur Music Fund, awarded for the best albums being released in Iceland. The nominations for the first Kraumur Awards were announced in November 2008. Nominations and the award-winning albums are chosen by a selected panel of Icelandic music journalist and radio show hosts, with years of experience in playing and writing about Icelandic music. The Kraumur Award usually goes to six albums, while 20 albums are nominated. The panel can add albums to the award category, which led to six albums in the first year and seven albums receiving the Kraumur award in 2013. Innrásin
In the spring of 2008 the independent Icelandic Kraumur Music Fund launched a special program called Innrásin, to support Icelandic artists to tour Iceland. Most Icelandic bands and artists are located in and around Iceland's capital, Reykjavík. The aim of 'Innrásin' is to support them to tour other places of the country to develop their career, increase their fan-base and promote their records. Among artists featured on 'Innrásar-tours' so far have been; Sign, Reykjavík!, Bloodgroup, Njútón, Elfa Rún Kristindóttir, Melkorka Ólafsdóttir, Benni Hemm Hemm and Borko. Kjartan Sveinsson
Kjartan "Kjarri" Sveinsson (; born 2 January 1978) is the keyboardist for the Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós. He joined the band in 1998. A multi-instrumentalist, he has also played such instruments as the flute, tin whistle, oboe, guitar and the banjo, as well as many of the unorthodox instruments that contribute to Sigur Rós's distinctive sound. Kjartan has performed under the pseudonym "The Lonesome Traveller" with Sigur Rós bandmate Orri Páll Dýrason and Amiina violinist María Huld Markan Sigfúsdóttir (whom Kjartan married in 2001). "The Lonesome Traveller" covered Sigur Rós songs acoustically in an alt-country style. Sólstafir
Sólstafir is an Icelandic post-metal band formed in 1995 and currently signed to Season of Mist. Originally a black metal band, they transitioned to a post-metal-influenced style on their second album '' Masterpiece of Bitterness''. History Sólstafir was formed in 1995 by guitarist/singer Aðalbjörn Tryggvason, bassist Halldór Einarsson, and drummer Guðmundur Óli Pálmason. The band's name is the Icelandic word for sun beams (crepuscular rays). They soon recorded the demos ''Í Norðri'' and ''Til Valhallar''. Halldór then left the band, and Aðalbjörn and Guðmundur recorded a promo tape as a duo in 1997. Sign (band)
Sign is an Icelandic rock band that was formed in 2000, as Halim, to compete in the Icelandic version of the Battle of the bands called Musiktilraunir. The band 's frontman and founding member Ragnar Zolberg is also a solo artist and was a guitar player in the Swedish band Pain of Salvation. Sign has toured with bands such as Wednesday 13, The Wildhearts, Aiden, The Answer, Skid Row and played a show with Alice Cooper in Iceland. In August 2007 Sign played their first headline tour of the UK. On 10 June 2008, Sign opened for Whitesnake in Reykjavik, Iceland. Sigur Rós
Sigur Rós () is an Icelandic post-rock band from Reykjavík, active since 1994. The band comprises singer and guitarist Jón Þór "Jónsi" Birgisson, bassist Georg Hólm, and keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson. Known for their ethereal sound, frontman Jónsi's falsetto vocals, and their use of bowed guitar, Sigur Rós incorporate classical and minimal aesthetic elements. Dikta
Dikta is an indie rock band from Iceland. They have released five albums thus far. Biography In its present incarnation, the group began in 1999. They played in the Icelandic band competition Músíktilraunir in 2000 and were finalists. Dikta's four members have been friends since they were children. Last year they've played on festivals such as In The City in Manchester, the SPOT-festival in Denmark and Iceland Airwaves. Their powerful performance in front of a packed venue at Iceland Airwaves earned them a mention in Rolling Stone Magazine. Dikta's first album, "Andartak", was released in late 2002.
