Kratonohy
Kratonohy is a municipality and village in Hradec Králové District in the Hradec Králové Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 600 inhabitants. Administrative parts The village of Michnovka is an administrative part of Kratonohy. Etymology The name of Kratonohy is derived from the Old Czech words ''kratonožka, kraťnoha'' which was a mocking designation for short-legged people. The name is believed to be originating from the 11th or the 12th century. According to the legend which aimed to cover up the derogatory name, Kratonohy was founded by Býd, the son of Count Slavomil of Kouřim, at the place where he rested with his people for three days. The legend says that the name was derived from "shortening the legs", which figuratively meant tired legs. Geography Kratonohy is located about west of Hradec Králové. Jaroslav Čihák
Major general Jaroslav Čihák (24 July 1891 – 30 April 1944) was an Austro-Hungarian army officer from 1914 and Russian legionary from 1916 (command platoon and battalion). Čihák was born in Kratonohy. Between the wars he was battalion commander, second in regiment command and regiment commander. From 1936 he was commander of the infantry school in Milovice. After beginning of Nazi occupation he left Czechoslovakia. In 1940 he was commander of Czechoslovak troops in conflicts on the German-French front (so-called ''divisional infantry''). He was Executive officer of National defence department in Britain (Czechoslovak government in exile) from July 1940 to January 1941. He participated in the building of the Czechoslovak army in foreign countries.
