Kourkène Medzadourian
Kourkène (Georges) Medzadourian ( hy, Գուրգէն Մեծատուրեան) (July 10, 1908 - December 27, 1996) was the founder of the Haï Ari association of Armenian Scouts-in-Exile, based in France. Scouting in Armenia was founded in 1912, then later developed abroad among the refugees who had survived the genocide of 1915-1916 and among those that had fled the new communist occupation of their lands, at which point Scouting ceased to exist in Armenia. ''Haï Ari'' (in French ''Association des Scouts Armeniens'', in English Association of Armenian Scouts) was a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement from 1928 to 1997. The organization was recognized in exile, with headquarters in Paris and approximately 1,100 members in France. In 1929, World Scouting recognised the association of Armenian Scouts ''Haï Ari'', based in France. European Scout Region (World Organization Of The Scout Movement)
The European Scout Region is one of six geographical subdivisions of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, with a satellite office in Brussels, Belgium. Exile is primarily penal expulsion from one's native country, and secondarily expatriation or prolonged absence from one's homeland under either the compulsion of circumstance or the rigors of some high purpose. Usually persons and peoples suffer exile, but sometimes social entities like institutions (e.g. the papacy or a government in exile, government) are forced from their homeland. World Scout Foundation
The World Scout Foundation (WSF) is an international, non-profit institution based in Geneva, Switzerland. Its mission is to develop World Scouting by the provision of financial and other support through the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM). Scouting is a pastime for young people typically organized in local units that emphasizes outdoor activities, self-discipline and civic engagement. The WSF was founded in 1969 but reorganized in the current form in 1977. The Honorary President is HM Carl XVI Gustaf, King of Sweden who actively participates in the activities of the foundation. The organisation is headed by Chairman Hector Robledo Cervantes and Director John Geoghegan. László Nagy (Scouting)
László Nagy (September 2, 1921 – December 18, 2009; ) was the Secretary General of the World Organization of the Scout Movement from May 1, 1968, to October 31, 1988. A Swiss citizen of Hungarian origin, he was a sociologist, a historian, a Doctor of Political Science, a former journalist and the author of a number of books on politics. Biography Nagy was born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1921, discovered Scouting and went on to become an assistant Scoutmaster. He attended the 4th World Scout Jamboree held in Gödöllő, Hungary in 1933. Nagy received a Masters in sociology and law, and a PhD in political science. He was a graduate of the business administration School at the University of Geneva. He studied for many years under the direction of child psychologist Jean Piaget. Later, he became the Director of Study and Head of the Department of Research and Documentation at the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva. Nagy was also a journalist and author. Bronze Wolf
The Bronze Wolf Award is bestowed by the World Scout Committee (WSC) to acknowledge "outstanding service by an individual to the World Scout Movement". It is the highest honor that can be given a volunteer Scout leader in the world and it is the only award given by the WSC. Since the award's creation in 1935, fewer than 400 of the several millions of Scouts throughout the world have received the award. History Scouting's founder, Robert Baden-Powell, initially recognized outstanding contributions to Scouting by any Scout with the bestowal of the Silver Wolf, but although he was Chief Scout of the World, the Silver Wolf was associated with British Scouting. In 1924, the International Committee, predecessor of the WSC, determined that it needed an award to be given out in its own name and at its own recommendation. World Organization Of The Scout Movement
The World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM ) is the largest international Scouting organization. WOSM has 173 members. These members are recognized national Scout organizations, which collectively have around 43 million participants. WOSM was established in 1922, and has its operational headquarters at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and its legal seat in Geneva, Switzerland. It is the counterpart of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). The WOSM's current stated mission is "to contribute to the education of young people, through a value system based on the Scout Promise and Scout Law, to help build a better world where people are self-fulfilled as individuals and play a constructive role in society".
