''Kotiliesi'' (Finnish: ''Fireside'') is a bimonthly family and women's magazine published in Helsinki, Finland. Founded in 1922, it is one of the oldest magazines in the country and is the first Finnish magazine addressing housewives. History and profile ''Kotiliesi'' was first published in December 1922, being the first specialized magazine for housewives in the country. The original motto of the magazine was "Home is society's heart." Its founder and one of the editors was Hedvig Gebhard, who was a journalist and the member of the Finnish Party. She served at the Parliament. The founding publishing company was SanomaWSOY, which started its business activities in the magazine publishing sector with the establishment of ''Kotiliesi''. The headquarters of the magazine is in Helsinki. The magazine is part of the Otava Group and is published bimonthly by Otava Media Oy. Its former publisher was Yhtyneet Kuvalehdet Oy. Hedvig Gebhard
Hedvig Maria Gebhard (née Silén; 14 December 1867 in Turku – 13 January 1961 in Helsinki) was a Finland, Finnish journalist and politician. She was an elected member of the Parliament of Finland, representing the Finnish Party from 1907 to 1909 and the National Coalition Party from 1919 to 1922 and again from 1924 to 1929. Life and work Born in Turku, Finland, Hedvig Gebhard came from a Swedish-speaking home. Her father was August Oskar Silén who began life as a poor shoemaker but made his fortune by virtue of hard work. Her mother was Hedvig Josephina Palmberg. Hedvig, also called Heddi, could not graduate from school in Finland because they were restricted to boys, so she continued her studies at the Lyceum for girls in Stockholm, Sweden. She graduated from nearby Uppsala University in 1889. The first magazine in Finland, a Swedish-language women's magazine named ''Om Konsten at rätt behaga'', was published in 1782. The number of the Finnish magazines was about 1,200 in the 1980s. In the 1990s, the circulation of magazines increased, being 5.4 million copies in 1990 and 6.2 million copies in 1999. The number of magazines was 2,819 in 2001. Magazines accounted for 18% of the Finnish press market in 2007. There were 3,300 magazines in 2008, half of which were trade and business magazines. Amanda (Mandi) Hannula (25 March 1880, in Huittinen – 9 January 1952) was a Finnish schoolteacher and politician. Finnish ( endonym: or ) is a Uralic language of the Finnic branch, spoken by the majority of the population in Finland and by ethnic Finns outside of Finland. Finnish is one of the two official languages of Finland (the other being Swedish). In Sweden, both Finnish and Meänkieli (which has significant mutual intelligibility with Finnish) are official minority languages. The Kven language, which like Meänkieli is mutually intelligible with Finnish, is spoken in the Norwegian county Troms og Finnmark by a minority group of Finnish descent. Finnish is typologically agglutinative and uses almost exclusively suffixal affixation. Nouns, adjectives, pronouns, numerals and verbs are inflected depending on their role in the sentence. Otava Publishing Company Ltd ( fi, Kustannusosakeyhtiö Otava, sv, Förlagsaktiebolaget Otava) is a major Finnish publisher of books. It was founded in 1890 and now is the second largest in Finland.
