Kote Kubaneishvili
Konstantine "Kote" Kubaneishvili ( ka, კოტე ყუბანეიშვილი) is a Georgian poet known for his political and anti-establishment themes, who was at one point imprisoned by the Soviet authorities. In the 1980s, while Georgia was still part of USSR, Kubaneishvili collaborated with Irakli Charkviani to establish the Reactive Club ( ka, რეაქტიული კლუბი), a "revolutionary art-collective" that ran counter to the accepted Soviet poetry style and was a reaction "against provincialism". Kubaneishvili is known for his progressive views. An anti-establishment view or belief is one which stands in opposition to the conventional social, political, and economic principles of a society. The term was first used in the modern sense in 1958, by the British magazine ''New Statesman'' to refer to its political and social agenda. Irakli Charkviani
Irakli Charkviani ( ka, ირაკლი ჩარკვიანი; 19 November 1961 – 24 February 2006), sometimes known under his pseudonym Mepe (, "The King"), was a Georgian musician, poet and prose writer. Charkviani was known for his eccentric image and poetry, and for eclectic music, which spanned alternative rock, electronic music and hip hop. He died because of heart problems at 45 years old. 2013 Tbilisi Anti-homophobia Rally Protests
A rally against homophobia was held in Tbilisi, Georgia, on May 17, 2013, the International Day Against Homophobia. Gay rights activists holding the rally were met by thousands of protestors opposing homosexuality, who were allowed to break through a police cordon and violently pursued them, beating and throwing stones at them. Two days earlier, Ilia II of Georgia, the head of the Georgian Orthodox Church, had called for banning the gay rights rally, describing homosexuality as an "anomaly and disease." The day before the rally, Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili stated that LGBT individuals "have the same rights as any other social groups" in Georgia. Dozens of gay rights activists had gathered in downtown Tbilisi for the rally. Rustaveli Theater
Rustaveli National Theatre ( ka, შოთა რუსთაველის სახელობის აკადემიური თეატრი ) is the largest and one of the oldest theaters of Georgia, located in its capital Tbilisi on Rustaveli Avenue. Housed in an ornate Rococo-style edifice, the theatre was founded in 1887 and since 1921 has carried the name of Georgia's national poet Rustaveli. History and architecture The building was founded in 1887 as an "Artists' Society". Upon request of the Artists' Society, several celebrated artists were commissioned to paint frescoes on the walls and ceilings of the basement. Robert Sturua
Robert Sturua ( ka, რობერტ სტურუა; born 31 July 1938, Tbilisi) is a Georgian theater director, who gained international acclaim for his original interpretation of the works of Brecht, Shakespeare, and Chekhov. He was based at the Shota Rustaveli Dramatic Theater in Tbilisi, and has staged productions throughout the world. Biography Sturua was born into an artistic family. His father, Robert, was a notable painter, whose works are part of the permanent exposition at the Tbilisi Art Museum. Mr Sturua is married to Dudana Kveselava, an art historian and an artist in her own right and daughter of Mikhail Kveselava, an accomplished philologist, writer and philosopher, who served as a translator at the Nuremberg trials. Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia ( ka, ქართული ოცნება – დემოკრატიული საქართველო, ''Kartuli ocneba – Demok’rat’iuli Sakartvelo'') is a social democratic political party in Georgia.
