Kostas Petropoulos
Konstantinos "Kostas" Petropoulos ( el, Κωνσταντίνος "Κώστας" Πετρόπουλος) is a Greece, Greek former professional basketball coach, and a retired professional basketball player. During his playing career, he was nicknamed Rudolf Nureyev, "Nureyev". Professional career During his pro sports club, club career, Petropoulos played basketball with the Greek club Apollon Patras B.C., Apollon Patras, from 1971 to 1987. On 4 April 1976, in a Greek B Basket League, Greek Second Division game between Apollon Patras and Agrinio BC, Agrinio, Petropoulos scored 93 points. On 11 January 1986, in a Greek Basket League, Greek First Division game between Apollon Patras and Ionikos Nikaias BC, Ionikos Nikaias, Petropoulos scored 51 points. After having six surgeries due to injuries, Petropoulos retired from playing pro club basketball in 1987, at the age of 31. 1999 EuroBasket
The 1999 FIBA European Championship, commonly called FIBA EuroBasket 1999, was the 31st FIBA EuroBasket regional basketball championship held by FIBA Europe, which also served as Europe qualifier for the 2000 Olympic Tournament, giving a berth to the top five (or six, depending on Yugoslavia reaching one of the top five places) teams in the final standings. It was held in France between 21 June and 3 July 1999. Sixteen national teams entered the event under the auspices of FIBA Europe, the sport's regional governing body. Cap (sport)
In sport, a cap is a player's appearance in a game at international level. The term dates from the practice in the United Kingdom of awarding a cap to every player in an international match of rugby football and association football. In the early days of football, the concept of each team wearing a set of matching shirts had not been universally adopted, so each side would distinguish itself from the other by wearing a specific sort of cap. Greek National Basketball Team
The Greece men's national basketball team ( el, Eθνική Oμάδα Καλαθοσφαίρισης Ελλάδος) represents Greece in international basketball. They are controlled by the Hellenic Basketball Federation, the governing body for basketball in Greece. Greece is currently ranked ninth in the FIBA World Rankings. Greece appeared eight times at the FIBA World Cup, their best performance coming in 2006 as runners-up, after beating the United States 101–95 in the tournament's semi-final. Greece took part the in the EuroBasket 28 times, winning the tournament twice; while also coming away with one silver ( 1989) as well as two bronze medals (1949, 2009). The system has a hierarchical format with a promotion and relegation system between competitions at different levels. There are several different competitions in the system. Greek Basket League
The Greek Basket League (GBL), often also referred to as the Greek A1 Basketball League, or Greek Basketball Championship (originally called Panhellenic Basketball Championship), and also known as the Stoiximan Basket League for sponsorship reasons, is the first tier level professional basketball league in Greece. It is run by HEBA ( el, ΕΣΑΚΕ, link=no), under the legal authority of the Hellenic Basketball Federation (E.O.K.). It is the highest-tier level of the Greek league system.
