Kostas Missas
Konstantinos "Kostas" Missas (alternate spelling: Constandinos, Costas) (Greek: Κωνσταντίνος "Κώστας" Μίσσας; born August 15, 1953 in Greece) is a Greek former professional basketball player, and current professional basketball coach. He is currently the head coach of Olympiacos women basketball team. He also coached the Greece men's national basketball team at the 2017 FIBA EuroBasket. During his playing career, he was nicknamed "The General". Playing career Club playing career In his club playing career, Missas played with the Greek clubs Panionios (1968–1986, 1988–1989), and Panathinaikos (1986–1988). With Panionios, he won the Greek 2nd Division twice, in 1974 and 1981. With Panionios, he also played in the European-wide 3rd-tier level league, the FIBA Korać Cup. FIBA European Cup Winners' Cup
The FIBA Saporta Cup was the name of the second-tier level European-wide professional club basketball competition, where the domestic National Cup winners, from all over Europe, played against each other. The competition was organized by FIBA Europe. It was named after the late Raimundo Saporta, a former Real Madrid director. Greek Basketball Cup
The Greek Basketball Cup or Hellenic Basketball Cup (Greek language, Greek: Κύπελλο Ελλάδος καλαθοσφαίρισης ανδρών) is the top-tier level annual pro basketball national cup competition in Greece. It is organized by the Hellenic Basketball Federation, Hellenic Basketball Federation (E.O.K.). History and format There were no official nation-wide Greek Cup competitions prior to the 1975–76 season. FIBA Korać Cup
The FIBA Korać Cup was an annual basketball club competition held by FIBA between the 1971–72 and 2001–02 seasons. It was the third-tier level club competition in European basketball, after the FIBA European Champions' Cup (later renamed the EuroLeague) and the FIBA Cup Winners' Cup (later renamed the FIBA Saporta Cup). European Professional Club Basketball System
Professional basketball clubs in Europe can compete in a number of different competitions, including national leagues, regional (multi-national) leagues, and continental competitions. EuroBasket 2017
EuroBasket 2017 was the 40th edition of the EuroBasket championship that was organized by FIBA Europe and held between 31 August and 17 September 2017. Beginning from 2017, the continental championships take place every four years with a similar system of qualification as for the FIBA Basketball World Cup. Like the previous edition, the tournament was co-hosted by four countries. Games in the group stage were held in Turkey, Finland, Israel and Romania. The knock-out phase was played in Istanbul, Turkey. Slovenia won their first-ever tournament after defeating Serbia 93–85 in the final. Greece Men's National Basketball Team
The Greece men's national basketball team ( el, Eθνική Oμάδα Καλαθοσφαίρισης Ελλάδος) represents Greece in international basketball. They are controlled by the Hellenic Basketball Federation, the governing body for basketball in Greece. Greece is currently ranked ninth in the FIBA World Rankings. Greece appeared eight times at the FIBA World Cup, their best performance coming in 2006 as runners-up, after beating the United States 101–95 in the tournament's semi-final.
