Koseze, Ljubljana
Koseze (; german: Koßes) is a formerly independent settlement in the northwest part of the capital Ljubljana in central Slovenia. It is part of the traditional region of Upper Carniola and is now included with the rest of the municipality in the Central Slovenia Statistical Region. Geography Koseze stands on clay soil beyond the gravelly terrace of the Sava River. Koseze Pond in the village is a former clay pit that supplied the brickworks operated by Gustav Tönnies (1814–1886) and was later flooded by the Agrostroj company to test irrigation pumps. Meadows and woods lie southwest of Koseze. Name Koseze was attested in 1414 as ''Edlingen'' (and as ''Edling'' in 1428 and ''zu Kasess'' in 1499). The name is originally an accusative plural demonym from the common noun ''*kosez'', referring to lesser Slavic nobility. The settlement was formerly known as ''Koßes'' in German. Koseze Pond
Koseze Pond ( sl, Koseški bajer), Martinek Pond () or Lake Koseze () is an artificial pond at the edge of Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, between Šiška Hill to the west and the neighborhood of Mostec to the east. It is part of the Tivoli–Rožnik Hill–Šiška Hill Landscape Park and is named after the nearby Koseze neighborhood in Ljubljana's Šiška District. Near Koseze Pond, the Path of Remembrance and Comradeship touches Tivoli–Rožnik Hill–Šiška Hill Landscape Park. The pond has an area of and a maximum depth of . It is fed by Mostec Creek. It was created after a former clay pit at the site, which supplied the brickworks operated by Gustav Tönnies (1814–1886), was closed. The pit was then overgrown by grass, but the Agrostroj company later flooded the area to test irrigation pumps. Koseze Pond is now used as a recreation area by local residents.
