Korukkupet
Korukkupet is a neighbourhood in the northern part of Chennai. It is served by the Korukkupet railway station. Location Korukkupet shares its boundaries with Mint and Basin Bridge in the south, Tondiarpet in the north, Washermanpet in the east and Buckingham Canal and Vyasarpadi in the west. Infrastructure As of 2010, a flyover is under construction at the Cocraine Basin Road level crossing which is expected to ease congestion in the area; however, it has been delayed. Korukkupet Railway Station
Korukkupet railway station is one of the railway station of the Chennai Central–Gummidipoondi section of the Chennai Suburban Railway Network. It serves the neighbourhood of Korukkupet, a suburb of Chennai, and is located 4 km north of Chennai Central railway station. It has an elevation of 7 m above sea level. History Korukkupet railway station is the first railway station located north of the diamond junction of the city's railway network. The lines at the station were electrified on 13 April 1979, with the electrification of the Chennai Central–Gummidipoondi section. Developments In 2007, a road overbridge project to replace the level crossing No. 1 was sanctioned at a cost of 140 million. Work commenced in 2009, and is expected to be completed by end 2012. However, the station lacks several basic facilities. The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (Chennai) Ltd. - (MTC), is the agency that operates the public bus service in Chennai, India. In 2022 the MTC has a total fleet of 3,448 buses with 3,233 scheduled services, with on average 2.832 million passengers per day. On March 22, 2016, the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways reported that Chennai had the most crowded buses in the country with 1300 passengers per bus in each direction per day. A Postal Index Number (PIN; sometimes redundantly a PIN code) refers to a six-digit code in the Indian postal code system used by India Post. On 15 August 2022, the PIN system celebrated its 50th anniversary.
