Erich Wolfgang Korngold (May 29, 1897November 29, 1957) was an Austrian-born American composer and conductor. A child prodigy, he became one of the most important and influential composers in Hollywood history. He was a noted pianist and composer of classical music, along with music for Hollywood films, and the first composer of international stature to write Hollywood scores., video, 9 min. Julius Korngold
Julius Leopold Korngold (24 December 1860 – 25 September 1945) was an Austrian music critic. He was the leading critic in early twentieth century Vienna, serving as chief music critic of the ''Neue Freie Presse'' from 1904 to 1934. ' (German for ''The Dead City''), Op. 12, is an opera in three acts by Erich Wolfgang Korngold set to a libretto by Paul Schott, a collective pseudonym for the composer and his father, Julius Korngold. It is based on the 1892 novel '' Bruges-la-Morte'' by Georges Rodenbach. Origins Rodenbach's novel ' had already been adapted by the author into a play. The play was translated into German by Siegfried Trebitsch under the title ' (''The Silent City''), which he later changed to ' (''The Mirage''). Trebitsch was a friend of Korngold's father, Julius. It is Korngold's second opera, written when he was seventeen years old. Max Steiner
Maximilian Raoul Steiner (May 10, 1888 – December 28, 1971) was an Austrian composer and conductor who emigrated to America and went on to become one of Hollywood's greatest musical composers. Steiner was a child prodigy who conducted his first operetta when he was twelve and became a full-time professional, proficient at composing, arranging, and conducting, by the time he was fifteen. Threatened with internment in Germany during World War I, he fled to England, then Broadway, and in 1929, he moved to Hollywood, where he became one of the first composers to write music scores for films. George Korngold
George Korngold (December 17, 1928 in Vienna, Austria – November 25, 1987 in Los Angeles, California) was a prominent record producer as well as a music editor and producer active within the film industry. He was the younger son of Austrian composer Erich Wolfgang Korngold. George's father first went to Hollywood in 1934 to work on the Max Reinhardt production of ''A Midsummer Night's Dream'', and travelled to and from Vienna for the next several years. During this time, George remained in Vienna: it was not until February 1938 that George arrived in the United States with his parents for the scoring of Robin Hood, and after the Anschluss in March and the emergency arrival of his older brother Ernst with his grandparents the family permanently remained in Los Angeles.
