Legislative Assembly elections were held in Nagaland on 27 February 2023 to elect all 60 members of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. The votes were counted and the results were declared on 2 March 2023. Background The tenure of 13th Nagaland Assembly is scheduled to end on 12 March 2023. 2018 Nagaland Legislative Assembly Election
The Nagaland Legislative Assembly election, 2018 was held on 27 February 2018 in 59 out of 60 constituencies of the Legislative Assembly of Nagaland. The scheduled election in Northern Angami II constituency did not take place as only incumbent MLA Neiphiu Rio was nominated and was therefore declared elected unopposed. The counting of votes took place on 3 March 2018. Background The tenure of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly ended on 13 March 2018. On 22 Jan 2018, former CM KL Chishi joined the BJP along with 12 other leaders and former lawmakers, including former Independent legislator Jacob Zhimomi, at an event in Dimapur. 11 parties issued a statement calling for the postponement of the polls. Elections to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly were held in February 2003 to elect members of the 60 constituencies in Nagaland, India. The Democratic Alliance of Nagaland, which was formed of the Naga People's Front, the Bharatiya Janata Party, Janata Dal (United) and the Samata Party, won a majority of seats and Neiphiu Rio was appointed as the Chief Minister of Nagaland. The number of constituencies was set as 60 by the recommendation of the Delimitation Commission of India. Background After the previous elections in 1998, Neiphiu Rio, was made the Home minister in S C Jamir's cabinet, but he resigned from the Congress in September 2002, accusing the chief minister of blocking a negotiated settlement on the Naga issue. Elections to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly were held in February 1998 to elect members of the 60 constituencies in Nagaland, India. The Indian National Congress won a majority of the seats and S. C. Jamir was re-appointed as the Chief Minister of Nagaland. The number of constituencies was set as 60 by the recommendation of the Delimitation Commission of India. Regional parties like the Naga People's Front did not contest these elections, and they were joined by the Bharatiya Janata Party in this action. In 43 of the constituencies, the INC candidate was the sole candidate and hence was declared the winner without a poll. In the other 17 constituencies, the INC candidate had to compete with one or more Independents. The Independents managed to win 7 of these seats.
