Korgen IL
Korgen is the administrative centre of Hemnes Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The village located along the river Røssåga, about south of the village of Bjerka. Korgen is connected by the European route E6 highway to the nearby towns of Mo i Rana and Mosjøen. The eastern end of the Korgfjell Tunnel is located in Korgen. The village of Bleikvassli lies about to the south along the Norwegian County Road 806. The village has a population (2017) of 878 which gives the village a population density of . This makes it the largest urban area in the municipality. Korgen Church is a cruciform church that's been located in the village since 1863. It was built of timber and has 450 seats. Korgen Sports Club (''Korgen Idrettslag'') was founded in 1935 as a sports club for Korgen. The sports club has sports like skiing, soccer, orienteering and team handball. Korgfjell Tunnel
The Korgfjell Tunnel () is an long road tunnel in Nordland county, Norway. The tunnel connects Knutli in Vefsn Municipality with the village of Korgen in Hemnes Municipality. Work on the tunnel started in September 2001 and it was opened on 16 September 2005. The tunnel replaced a narrow, steep, twisting mountain road and shortened the European route E6 highway by . The travel time was shortened by 10–20 minutes. Before the tunnel, trucks with trailers were often stuck going uphill or downhill in snowy conditions, blocking the road. The place was considered one of the worst places on the E6 highway. The mountain road which reaches in altitude was built by the Germans during World War II, replacing a ferry connection at Elsfjord. Bleikvasslia
Bleikvasslia is a village in Hemnes Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The village is located about south of the village of Korgen, just southwest of the lake Bleikvatnet. Bleikvasslia is a former mining community, but water started leaking into the mines therefore they no longer produce. Bleikvassli Church is located in this village. There is one gas station and store in the village. There are two dams nearby that produce hydroelectric power. There are many cabins scattered around the Bleikvasslia area that people from Korgen use as vacation homes. The Beisfjord massacre ( no, Beisfjord-massakren) was a massacre on 18 July 1942 at Beisfjord Camp No.1 (; no, Beisfjord fangeleir, link=no) in Beisfjord, Norway of 288 political prisoners. The massacre had been ordered a few days earlier by Josef Terboven, the ''Reichskommissar'' for Nazi-occupied Norway. Background In order to build defences in Norway against the Allies, the Germans brought in around 5,000 Yugoslavian political prisoners and prisoners-of-war—in addition to prisoners of other nationalities—to work as forced labour on infrastructure projects. In the summer of 1942 a number of prisoners started arriving in North Norway as a result of the transfer of prisoners from the new Croatian puppet regime to German authorities who needed manpower for projects in Norway. Korgen (municipality)
Korgen is a former municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1918 until its dissolution in 1964. The municipality included the central part of what is now Hemnes Municipality, centered around the river Røssåga. The administrative centre was the village of Korgen where Korgen Church is located. History The municipality of Korgen was established on 1 July 1918 when it was separated from the large Hemnes Municipality. Initially, the municipality had 1,369 residents. During the 1960s, there were many municipal mergers across Norway due to the work of the Schei Committee. On 1 January 1964, the municipality of Korgen (population: 3,033) was merged with Hemnes Municipality (population: 1,352), the southern district of Sør-Rana Municipality (population: 934), and the far northern part of Hattfjelldal Municipality (population: 168) to create a new, larger Hemnes Municipality.
