The South Korea national badminton team represents South Korea in international badminton team competitions. The team emerged as the Sudirman Cup champion in 1991, 1993, 2003, and 2017, also won world women's team championships in the 2010 and repeated this feat in the 2022 Uber Cups. Badminton
Badminton is a racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net. Although it may be played with larger teams, the most common forms of the game are "singles" (with one player per side) and "doubles" (with two players per side). Badminton is often played as a casual outdoor activity in a yard or on a beach; formal games are played on a rectangular indoor court. Points are scored by striking the shuttlecock with the racquet and landing it within the opposing side's half of the court. Each side may only strike the shuttlecock once before it passes over the net. Play ends once the shuttlecock has struck the floor or if a fault has been called by the umpire, service judge, or (in their absence) the opposing side. The shuttlecock is a feathered or (in informal matches) plastic projectile which flies differently from the balls used in many other sports. 2020 Thomas & Uber Cup
The 2020 Thomas & Uber Cup (officially known as the TotalEnergies BWF Thomas & Uber Cup Finals 2020 for sponsorship reasons) was the 31st edition of the Thomas Cup and the 28th edition of the Uber Cup, the biennial international badminton championship contested by the men and women's national teams of the member associations of Badminton World Federation (BWF). The tournament were played at Ceres Arena in Aarhus, Denmark. It is the first time that Denmark hosted the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup tournament and the first time this event was held in Europe since England 1982. It was due to be played on 15–23 August 2020, but on 29 April 2020 it was postponed to the 3–11 October due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 2018 Thomas & Uber Cup
The 2018 Thomas & Uber Cup (officially known as the 2018 BWF Thomas & Uber Cup) was the 30th edition of the Thomas Cup and the 27th edition of the Uber Cup, the biennial international badminton championship contested by the men and women's national teams of the member associations of Badminton World Federation (BWF). The tournament was hosted by Bangkok, Thailand 20–27 May 2018. The matches were played at IMPACT Arena. It was the second time that Thailand hosted the Thomas Cup and the first time hosted the Uber Cup tournament and the first time this event was held in Southeast Asia since 2010 in Malaysia. The 2016 Thomas & Uber Cup was the 29th tournament of the Thomas Cup and 26th tournament of the Uber Cup, the premier badminton team championships for men and women respectively. It was held at the Kunshan Sports Centre in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province, China. Host city selection Jakarta and Kunshan submitted bids for this championships, the same situation as the bid for 2015 BWF World Championships. Kunshan was named as the host in May 2014 during BWF Council meeting in New Delhi, India. 2014 Thomas & Uber Cup
The 2014 Thomas & Uber Cup was the 28th tournament of the Thomas Cup and 25th tournament of the Uber Cup, the badminton team championships for men and women respectively. It was held on 18–25 May 2014 at the Siri Fort Sports Complex in New Delhi, India. This is the first time India hosted the two cups. The Thomas Cup final featured two teams not expected to make it there as Japan faced Malaysia. In a back-and-forth contest, Japan came out on top by a score of 3 matches to 2, winning their first Thomas Cup. The Uber Cup final featured the top two teams, China and Japan. Backed by wins from the world's top two singles players, China came out on top by a 3–1 score. It was their 13th title overall. Host city selection New Delhi was awarded with this event by Badminton World Federation in April 2013. The 2012 Thomas & Uber Cup was the 27th tournament of the Thomas Cup and 24th international badminton tournament of the Uber Cup. It was held from May 20–27, 2012 at the Wuhan Sports Center Stadium in Wuhan, China. Host city selection Jakarta (Indonesia) and Wuhan (China) submitted bids for the competition. Wuhan was announced as the host by BWF after a meeting in Qingdao during the 2011 Sudirman Cup. The 2008 Thomas & Uber Cup was the 25th tournament of the Thomas Cup and 22nd tournament of the Uber Cup, the men's and women's team competition in badminton, respectively. 2006 Thomas & Uber Cup
The 2006 Thomas & Uber Cup was held from 28 April to 7 May in Sendai and Tokyo, Japan. It was the 24th tournament of Thomas Cup and 21st tournament of Uber Cup, men's and women's badminton tournaments. Sendai hosted all of the group stage and play-off matches while Tokyo hosted the event starting from the quarter finals until the final. This was first time the Thomas & Uber Cup was played with a three-game 21-point scoring system. China emerged as champions of both tournaments after beating Denmark and Netherlands in the men's and women's competitions respectively.
