Kora is a village in the Jamalpur tehsil, Bardhaman district, West Bengal state, India. Kora Boufflert (born Sommerfeld on 23 April 1966 at the Havre) is a former French athlete, who specialized in race walking. Biography Very early on attracted by the ultra-distance walk racing (145 km at the 24 hour walk of Rouen in 1987), she also had a career in speed walking. In 1993 and 1994 she won two caps for France for the 10km walk. In 1994 and 1995 she beat the world records for the 100 km walk (10h13:56 at Roubaix on 9 October 1994) and the 50 km< walk (4h41:57 on 17 September 1995). Kora (tribe)
The Kora (also known as Kuda, Kura, Kaora, Dhangar and Dhanger) are an ethnic group found in the Indian states of West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand and the Bangladeshi division of Rajshahi. The 2011 census showed their population to be around 260,000. They are classified as a Scheduled Tribe by the Indian government. Etymology The tribe's name ''Kora'' and its alternate spellings are possibly originated from Mundari word for earthworks "Koda" . History It is speculated that they are an off shoot of Munda tribe. Risley (1894) classified them as a "Hinduised" caste. The Kora are noted for their traditional skills and primary occupation in various earth works such as cutting soil and digging tanks. The Kora, Khora or Cora were one of the ten indigenous tribes of the Great Andamanese people, originally living on the eastern part of North Andaman Island in the Indian Ocean. The tribe is now extinct, although some of the remaining Great Andamanese on Strait Island claim to have Kora ancestors. The tribe spoke a distinctive Kora language, closely related to the other Great Andamanese languages. Koda Language
Koda, also known as Kora, Kaora, Korali, Korati, Kore, Mudi, or Mudikora, is an endangered Munda language of India and Bangladesh spoken by the Kora. The Kora mainly live in West Bengal, in the districts of Paschim Medinipur and Bankura, with a few in neighbouring Odisha and Jharkhand. In 2005, there were 1,300 speakers in the Rajshahi Division of Bangladesh, though many said that Bengali was their best language. Koda is closely related to the Kol language.
