Kooloonong
Kooloonong is a locality in Victoria, Australia, located approximately 147 km from Mildura, Victoria and was on the Yungera railway line. Kooloonong was established as a soldier settlement area for returned servicemen from World War I. By the mid-1920s, it was a thriving township with a bush nursing hospital, government offices, a school, an RSL hall, a railway station and sporting facilities. The town has declined since then and now has only one occupied house, plus the rarely-used hall, a CFA shed and unused grain handling facilities. The railway north of Swan Hill was extended from Piangil to Kooloonong in March 1920 to support the soldier settlement farms in the area. For many years, water was carted to the location by train because there was no natural water supply. The line from Piangil was closed in December 1986. Piangil Railway Line
The Piangil railway line is a 5 ft 3 in gauge (1600 mm) railway line in north-western Victoria, Australia. It branches off the Deniliquin line just north of Bendigo, and runs in a north-westerly direction through Pyramid Hill and Kerang to the border town of Swan Hill, then roughly parallels the New South Wales border to Piangil and Yungera. The line is now open only as far as Piangil, and passenger services only operate to Swan Hill. History The line was opened from its junction with the Deniliquin line, just north of Bendigo, to Raywood in 1882. It was progressively extended to Mitiamo in 1883, Pyramid and Kerang in 1884, and Swan Hill in 1890. The line from Swan Hill was extended to Piangil in 1915, Kooloonong in 1920, and Yungera in 1926. Boundary Bend, Victoria
Boundary Bend is a small town in the state of Victoria, Australia. It is near the junction of the Murray River and Murrumbidgee River. It is located about 50 kilometres east along the Murray Valley Highway from the twin towns of Robinvale in Victoria and Euston in New South Wales, about 90 km north of Swan Hill. At the , Boundary Bend and the surrounding area had a population of 132. The access to the junction of the two rivers is down a track off the highway. It was at this point that Captain Charles Sturt and his party of explorers first sighted the Murray River in 1830. They had travelled down the Murrumbidgee, and continued downstream along the Murray in their whaleboat. Boundary Bend Post Office opened on 6 April 1923.
