Kooikerhondje
The Kooikerhondje (Dutch for "Duck catcher's small dog") is a small spaniel-type breed of dog of Dutch ancestry that was originally used as a working dog, particularly in an ''eendenkooi'' ( duck decoy) to lure ducks. Kooikers were popular in the 17th and 18th century and appear in the paintings of Rembrandt and Jan Steen. The breed is gaining popularity in the United States, Canada and Scandinavia, where it is still relatively unknown. Description Appearance The Kooikerhondje is a small, flashy, orange and white spaniel-like sporting dog. Originally bred in the Netherlands as a duck decoy dog, its heavily white plumed tail waves jauntily to entice and lure ducks to follow it into Eendenkooi (elaborate manmade pond trapping systems). When not working the traps, Kooikers were expected to work on the farm to catch vermin. John Kooiker
John J. Kooiker (born June 28, 1946) is an American politician affiliated with the Republican Party (United States), Republican Party who served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 2015 to 2017. He was elected from the Iowa House of Representatives, District 4, fourth district. Early life and career Kooiker is one of seven children born to John and Johanna Kooiker (née Vermeer). He graduated from Western Christian High School (Hull, Iowa), Western Christian High School in 1964, as class valedictorian. He attended Calvin College, graduating in 1968, then Kansas State University, where he earned a masters in math education. Kooiker served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He left the army and began teaching math and physics at the Christian Academy in Japan in 1972. Leonie Kooiker (20 October 1927 – 16 April 2020) was a Dutch children's writer. She was born in Markelo, Netherlands. She published for the children's magazine '' Kris Kras''. Sam Kooiker
Sam Kooiker (born March 9, 1974) is an American politician who served as Mayor of Rapid City, South Dakota from 2011 to 2015. Early life Kooiker was born on March 9, 1974, in Japan, while his father John Kooiker taught at the Christian Academy. The family returned to the United States in 1975, where Kooiker and three siblings grew up on the family farm in Boyden, Iowa. He attended Western Christian High School in the neighboring town of Hull. While in high school, Kooiker held a job at Hy-Vee's Sheldon and Sioux Center stores. He earned bachelor's degrees in criminal justice and psychology and a master's degree in public administration from the University of South Dakota (USD). During his time at USD, Kooiker continued working for Hy-Vee in Vermillion, South Dakota, and was also an intern at the Sioux City Police Department in his home state of Iowa.
