Kontraritam
Kontraritam ( sr-cyr, Контраритам; trans. ''Counterrhythm'') was a former Yugoslav 2 Tone/ska band from Novi Sad. History The band was formed in Autumn 1980 by former Gomila G members Žolt Horvat (guitar), Robert "Robi" Radić (drums), Jan Pavlov (keyboards, vocals), Dimitrije "Mita" Radulović (bass guitar, vocals). The band also featured guitarist Sreten "Srele" Kovačević who left his former band Pekinška Patka after the release of their debut album ''Plitka poezija''. Beside the guitar, Kovačević played saxophone, which he took up playing a few months before joining the band. After a few club appearances and with the help of Vitomir "Vita" Simurdić, the band managed to appear on the Festival Omladina. Even though the band did not win the festival, it got positive reactions from the audience and critics. In December 1980, the band appeared at the Grok Festival, held at the Novi Sad fair. Kontraritam (album)
''Kontraritam'' (''The Counterbeat'') is the first and only studio album by the Serbian 2 tone ska band Kontraritam, released by Jugoton in 1982. The album is the first ska studio album in former Yugoslavia. It was never rereleased and is today considered a rarity and a collector's item. The track from the album, "Žožo, vrati se ", appeared on the Jugoton various artists compilation ''Vrući dani i vrele noći ''Vrući dani i vrele noći'' (meaning in Serbo-Croat: Hot days and scorching nights) is a compilation album released by Jugoton in 1982 in the former SFR Yugoslavia. La Strada (band)
La Strada ( sr-Cyrl, Ла Страда; Italian language, Italian for ''The Road'') was a Serbian and SFRY, former Yugoslav New wave music, new wave and later alternative rock band from Novi Sad. Formed in 1979 by Slobodan Tišma, the band recorded a three-song demo which was often broadcast on Radio Novi Sad. Having changed several lineups and despite having well received live appearances, the band disbanded in 1981. Tišma with at the time La Strada members Zoran Bulatović "Bale" and Ivan Fece "Firchie" formed Luna (Serbian band), Luna. After the Luna disbandment, in 1984 Tišma reformed La Strada with the former La Strada bassist Danijel Stari, former Luna member Jasmina Mitrušić "Mina", guitarist Žolt Horvat and drummer Robert Radić. Pekinška Patka (Serbian Cyrillic: Пекиншка Патка; trans. ''Peking Duck'') is an eminent Serbian and former Yugoslav punk rock band from Novi Sad. Their debut album, ''Plitka poezija'', released in 1980, is considered the first punk rock album by a band coming from Serbia. Being one of the first punk acts in Yugoslavia, they played a major role in opening doors for many bands that came after. On their second and final album, '' Strah od monotonije'', released in 1981, they turned towards post-punk and darkwave sound, disbanding during the same year. In 2008, the band reunited to perform on the main stage of Exit Festival alongside Sex Pistols, and in 2010, they reunited once again, continuing their activity. Love Hunters
Love Hunters is a Serbian hard rock band from Novi Sad. History 1987–2004 The band was formed in 1987 by Milan Mumin (vocals) and Aleksandar Medan (guitar). The first lineup of the band also featured Lazar Malešević (bass guitar) and Siniša Lučić (drums). In the beginning, the band had several lineup changes, before the first consistent lineup was formed. It featured Mumin, Medan, Vladimir Jovanov (also known as Menadner Protector, a former Necrophobic member, bass guitar), Mario Kalin (guitar), and Robert Radić (a former Kontraritam, La Strada and Obojeni Program member, drums). Initially, the band was punk blues-oriented. As the band's songs featured English language lyrics, and as their first releases were released through independent record labels, the band initially did not manage to break through mainstream media. Veliki Prezir
Veliki Prezir ( sr-cyr, Велики Презир; trans. ''The Great Contempt'') is a Serbian alternative rock band from Vrbas. History 1990s Veliki Prezir was formed on June 1994 by a former Holidays member Vladimir Kolarić "Kole" (vocals, guitar), Slavko Kontra (guitar), Predrag Ilčešin (bass guitar) and Dušan Kuzmanović (drums), choosing the band name by the Jean-Luc Godard film '' Le Mépris''. Soon afterward, they entered the studio and recorded a demo featuring the song "Samo tebe znam" ("You Are The Only One I Know"), at the Novi Sad Do-Re-Mi studio, and during the spring of the following year, a promotional video was recorded for the track, making it an immediate hit on television and radio stations. Festival Omladina
Festival Omladina (English: ''Youth Festival''), also known as Omladinski Festival, is a music festival held in Subotica, Serbia. The festival was founded in 1961 as a competition of young composers of popular music. Their compositions were initially performed by pop singers, but soon the performers of competing compositions became rock bands. In the 1970s, the non-competitive part, featuring established rock acts, was added to the program, and in the 1980s the festival became a competition of young rock bands. During the years, some of the most notable acts of the Yugoslav pop and rock scene performed on the festival. In 1990, at the beginning of the breakup of Yugoslavia, the festival ceased to exist. Jugoton was the largest record label and chain record store in the former Yugoslavia based in Zagreb, SR Croatia. History Jugoton was formed in 1947. It is notable for releasing some of the most important former Yugoslav pop and rock records. In addition, the company owned a widespread network of record shops across SFR Yugoslavia. Obojeni Program ( sr-cyr, Обојени Програм, trans. ''Colored Program'') is a Serbian alternative rock band from Novi Sad. The band are pioneers of the Serbian alternative rock scene. The first letters of the band's first seven studio albums form an acronym of their home town. They have performed at every Exit festival since the first in 2000, with the exception of the virtual Exit held in September 2020. History Early career (1980–1988) Before forming the band, vocalist Branislav Babić "Kebra" was a member of the two minor Novi Sad punk rock groups, Abortus and Pankreas. With the latter, Babić performed at the Zemun Punk festival, where the members of the Belgrade punk group Urbana Gerila approached him and asked to join them. Luna (Novi Sad Band)
Luna ( sr-cyr, Луна; trans. ''The Moon'') was a Serbian and former Yugoslav post-punk/gothic rock band from Novi Sad. Formed on the ashes of the new wave band La Strada and getting the name by the Bernardo Bertolucci film '' La Luna'', Luna quickly gained the public's attention and established a cult status. Haustor
Haustor ( hr, Hallway or front door) was a Yugoslav rock band from Zagreb, SR Croatia, a member of the new wave movement, and an important act of the former Yugoslav rock scene. History The basis of the band was formed in 1977, when singer and occasional guitarist Darko Rundek met bassist Srđan Sacher. Two years later they formed Haustor, together with Ozren Štiglić (guitar) and Boris Leiner (drums), who also played in another prominent Yugoslav rock band Azra. During 1980 they added Zoran Vuletić (keyboard) and a brass section. The group was mostly influenced by Caribbean music. Haustor released its self-titled debut album in 1981. Idoli ( sr-cyr, Идоли; trans. The Idols) were a Serbian new wave band from Belgrade. They are considered to be one of the most notable acts of the Yugoslav rock scene, and their 1982 album ''Odbrana i poslednji dani'' was on several occasions voted by the music critics as the greatest Yugoslav rock album. History Merlin and Zvuk Ulice The roots of Idoli can be found in a band called Merlin (not to be confused with the Sarajevo pop rock band of the same name) and then Zvuk Ulice consisting of Vlada Divljan on guitar and vocals, bassist Zdenko Kolar, keyboard player Dragan Mitrić, drummer Kokan Popović, Bora Antić on saxophone and Dragana Milković on piano and vocals.
