Konstantin Semyonov
Konstantin Semyonov ( he, קונסטנטין סמיונוב; born 20 November 1969 in the Soviet Union) is a retired Israeli pole vaulter. Before becoming an Israeli citizen he won the bronze medal at the 1992 European Indoor Championships for the Unified Team and became Belarusian national champion in 1993. He then finished eighth at the 1996 European Indoor Championships. He also competed at the 1995 World Championships and the 1996 Summer Olympics without reaching the final. His personal best is 5.76 metres, achieved in July 1996 in Tel Aviv. Pole Vault
Pole vaulting, also known as pole jumping, is a track and field event in which an athlete uses a long and flexible pole, usually made from fiberglass or carbon fiber, as an aid to jump over a bar. Pole jumping competitions were known to the Mycenaean Greeks, Minoan Greeks and Celts. It has been a full medal event at the Olympic Games since 1896 for men and since 2000 for women. It is typically classified as one of the four major jumping events in athletics, alongside the high jump, long jump and triple jump. It is unusual among track and field sports in that it requires a significant amount of specialised equipment in order to participate, even at a basic level. Unified Team At The Olympics
The Unified Team (russian: Объединённая команда) was the name used for the sports team of the former Soviet Union (except the Baltic states) at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville and the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. The IOC country code was EUN, after the French name, Équipe unifiée. The Unified Team was sometimes informally called the CIS Team (Commonwealth of Independent States, as a counterpart of CIS national football team taking part in Euro 1992 of the same year), although Georgia did not join the CIS until 1993. 1995 World Championships In Athletics
The 5th World Championships in Athletics, under the auspices of the International Association of Athletics Federations, were held at the Ullevi Stadium, Gothenburg, Sweden on 5–13 August 1995. This edition featured 1804 athletes from 191 nations. This competition saw the women run the 5000 m event at the World Championships for the first time. Aleksandr "Alex" Valeryevich Averbukh ( he, אלכס אברבוך, russian: Александр Валерьевич Авербух; born October 1, 1974) is a retired Russian decathlete and Israeli Olympic athlete, who competed in the pole vault. He won silver and bronze medals at the World Championships, won a gold medal as the European champion in both 2002 and 2006, and won a gold medal at the 2013 Maccabiah Games. He was formerly a decathlete competing for Russia, but he later became an Israeli citizen and rose to top level in pole vault. He competed in the 2001 Maccabiah Games, winning a gold medal.
