Koninklijke Stichting Defensiemusea
The Stichting Koninklijke Defensiemusea (SKD, previously KSD; ''Royal Foundation for Defence Museums'') is an umbrella organization managing the collections of the four main military museums in the Netherlands - the Nationaal Militair Museum (NMM) in Soesterberg, the Marinemuseum in Den Helder, the Mariniersmuseum in Rotterdam, and the Marechausseemuseum in Buren. It was set up on 1 July 2014 by the Dutch Ministry of Defence as an intermediary between the Ministry and the museums themselves. The Ministry of Defence provides an annual subsidy of 7.5 million Euros (2012 pricing levels), along with annual payments of 8.4 million Euros for 25 years to the NMM's public-private partnership, known as 'Design, Build, Finance, Maintain & Operate'. Bronbeek
Bronbeek is a former Royal palace in Arnhem, Netherlands. It is now a museum and a home for elderly soldiers. Bronbeek was built early in the 19th century. In 1845 the Dutch King William III bought it. He donated it to the Dutch state in 1859. William wanted it to be a home for disabled KNIL soldiers. The inhabitants took their collections of 'souvenirs' with them. This turned into a museum about the Dutch East Indies. In 2004, 50 former soldiers had their home in Bronbeek. The Dutch East Indies, also known as the Netherlands East Indies ( nl, Nederlands(ch)-Indië; ), was a Dutch colony consisting of what is now Indonesia. It was formed from the nationalised trading posts of the Dutch East India Company, which came under the administration of the Dutch government in 1800. De Kooy Airfield ( nl, Vliegveld De Kooy) is an airfield south of Den Helder, Netherlands, named after the nearby hamlet De Kooy. Volkel Air Base ( nl, Vliegbasis Volkel) is a military airbase used by the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) - Dutch: ''Koninklijke Luchtmacht (KLu)'', and is located near the village of Volkel in North Brabant, Netherlands. Gilze-Rijen Air Base ( nl, Vliegbasis Gilze-Rijen, ) is a military airbase in the south of Netherlands. It is located between the cities of Breda and Tilburg, which are both in North Brabant.
