Kongorong is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located southwest of Mount Gambier. It has an Australian rules football team and netball team. Kongorong Primary School had 61 students in 2010. The 2016 Australian census which was conducted in August 2016 reports that Kongorong had a population of 193 people. History Kongorong was officially named by the South Australian Government on 30 March 1922 for the cadastral land division in which the township lay, the Hundred of Kongorong. Kongorong is thought to mean "the corner of it" in an indigenous language. Economy Kongorong is a service town for the surrounding community involved in dairy and sheep farming, timber plantations, and grape growing in the Mount Gambier wine region. The Hundred of Kongorong is a cadastral division of the County of Grey in southeastern South Australia. It was named on 12 June 1862 after an indigenous phrase thought to mean "the corner of it". Boundaries for the locality were created on 31 October 1996 for “the long established name” and includes the site of the ''Nene Valley Shack Site''. Mount Schank, South Australia
__NOTOC__ Mount Schank is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located about south-east of the state capital of Adelaide and south of the municipal seat of Mount Gambier in the south-east of the state. British colonisation of the area began in 1842 when brothers Edward and Fortescue Arthur (sons of Sir George Arthur) established the Mount Schank Station. The Arthur brothers were in continuous conflict with the local Bungandidj people from the time of their arrival. Many of their shepherds absconded, horses were speared and hundreds of their sheep were taken. The brothers had to do much of the shepherding work themselves and often engaged in close combat with "the Blacks". On one occasion Fortescue was slightly wounded after being speared. After capturing and chaining up a Bungandidj man, Edward forced him to reveal the location of their camp. German Creek, South Australia
German Creek is a rural locality in south-eastern South Australia, situated in the District Council of Grant. The boundaries were formalised in October 1995 for the long established name. The postcode was originally 5280, but was altered to 5291 in 2004. It was reportedly named for a German who was shepherding in the area. History The German Creek area was offered to the government for closer settlement purposes in 1911; however, while the government purchased the nearby Moorak estate, it declined to purchase land at German Creek, and the area was privately subdivided. It was renamed Benara Creek in 1918, one of many German-themed named places in South Australia to be renamed during World War I; however, it reverted to its original name in 1986.
