Kombat Opera Presents
''Kombat Opera Presents'' is a BBC2 comedy show. The comedy parodies British television programmes by transforming them into operas. The music for the series was written by Richard Thomas, with the series having its origins in the ''Kombat Opera'' segments of Simon Munnery's character The League Against Tedium, and his television show '' Attention Scum''. The series won the Best Comedy prize at the 2008 Rose d'Or ceremony. Stewart Lee
Stewart Graham Lee (born 5 April 1968) is an English comedian, screenwriter, and television director. His stand-up routine is characterised by repetition, internal reference, deadpan delivery, and consistent breaking of the fourth wall. Lee began his career in 1989 and formed the comedy duo Lee and Herring Lee and Herring were a British standup comedy double act consisting of the comedians Stewart Lee and Richard Herring. Simon Munnery
Simon Munnery, also known as his characters "Alan Parker: Urban Warrior" and "The League Against Tedium", is an English comedian. He performs mainly to an alternative audience but has pierced the mainstream both with his BBC Radio 1 show in 1997 and his BBC2 television series ''Attention Scum!'' in 2001. His stand-up is often satirical and political and almost always surreal. Munnery's experimental style is reflected in his makeshift, often elaborate props. As "The League" he often wore a hat crafted from a kettle, epaulets that contained working model tanks, and shoes covered in roses. In ''Buckethead'' he played a character who performed the entire show with a metal bucket over his head. ''Panorama'' is a British BBC Television current affairs documentary programme. First broadcast in 1953, it is the world's longest-running television news magazine programme. Wife Swap (British TV Series)
''Wife Swap'' is a British reality television programme produced by independent television production company RDF Media and created by Stephen Lambert for Channel 4, first broadcast in 2003 and ran for 7 years before being cancelled. The show returned for a one-off special episode on 15 June 2017. In the programme, two families, usually from different social classes and lifestyles, swap wives/mothers – and sometimes husbands – for two weeks. In fact, the programme will usually deliberately swap wives with dramatically different lifestyles, such as a messy wife swapping with a fastidiously neat one. Despite using a phrase from the swinging lifestyle, couples participating in the show do not share a bed with the "swapped" spouse while "swapping" homes. Rose D'Or
The Rose d'Or ('Golden Rose') is an international awards festival in entertainment broadcasting and programming. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) first acquired the Rose d’Or in 1961, when it was created by Swiss Television in the lakeside city of Montreux. The awards stayed with the EBU for almost 40 years. The EBU re-acquired the awards in 2013 and successfully re-launched the event that year in Brussels, then relocated to Berlin from 2014 to 2018. In 2014 the event took place on 17 September in Berlin, Germany. Attention Scum
''Attention Scum'' was a 2001 television comedy series created by Simon Munnery and Stewart Lee. It starred Munnery as his "League Against Tedium" character and contained acerbic stand-up routines atop a transit van and sketches including mainstays such as "24 Hour News" (performed by Johnny Vegas), operatic intermissions by Kombat Opera, and two characters engaged in a duel over their hats. Broadcast Originally shown on BBC 2 at 11:50pm on Sundays from February to April 2001, the programme was not repeated on the BBC and only played on the now-defunct channel UK Play. Richard Thomas (musician)
Richard Thomas (born 1964) is a British musician, writer, and comedy actor. He is best known for Musical composition, composing, writing and scoring the award-winning ''Jerry Springer: The Opera'' with book and additional lyrics co-written with Stewart Lee. Thomas collected the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Musical Score in 2004. Richard Thomas's comedy career began in 1987, doing a musical act on keyboards. In 2000, he wrote and performed a one-act opera called ''Tourette's Diva'' with four actors, which aired at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Opera is a form of theatre in which music is a fundamental component and dramatic roles are taken by singers.
