Kolë Tromara
Kol Tromara (1882–1945) was an Albanian nationalist and political figure of the first half of the 20th century. Tromara was born in Albanian Orthodox Qytezë, a town in today's Devoll municipality, back then part of the Ottoman Empire, son of Thanas and Kostandina Tromara. Tromara pursued his elementary studies in nearby Korçë, and higher ones in Greece. He started working after then as a pharmacist in Korçë, but due to economical difficulties and political oppression from the Ottomans decided to emigrate in US, quite common at the time for the Orthodox community members. Tromara settled in Boston, Massachusetts in 1906 and was immediately involved in the patriotic circles of the Albanian community there. Qytezë
Qytezë (or Qyteza in its definite form in Albanian) is a community in Korçë County, southern Albania. At the 2015 local government reform it became part of the municipality Devoll. The settlement is known for being the birthplace of Adam Anastas Beloushi, the father of comedian/actor/musicians, John and James Belushi. Qyteza () was formed during the 18th century from the Orthodox settlers of nearby abandoned villages, wrecked from the Ottoman oppression. Local people have contributed to the Albanian National Awakening, June Revolution, and the National Liberation Movement (Albania). Vasil Tromara, an Albanian patriot, is remembered for raising the Albanian flag in Korçë, on November 28, 1920, marking the end of the inter-dependencies of the region and final incorporation in Albania. Avni Rustemi
Avni Rustemi (26 September 1895 – 22 April 1924) was an Albanian patriot, revolutionary, teacher, activist and member of the Albanian parliament. Rustemi was the leader of numerous patriotic societies and associations and also a member of the democratic opposition in the Albanian National Assembly preceding the Revolution of June 1924. He is most well-known and celebrated for having assassinated Essad Pasha Toptani - an Albanian politician who is remembered amongst Albanians as a symbol of treason and as one of the most negative historical figures of the 20th century - and his founding and leadership of the Bashkimi association, which played an important role in Albanian politics during the June Revolution. Ahmet Zogu
Zog I (born Ahmed Muhtar Zogolli; 8 October 18959 April 1961) was the leader of Albania from 1922 to 1939. At age 27, he first served as Albania's youngest ever Prime Minister (1922–1924), then as president (1925–1928), and finally as King (1928–1939). Born to an aristocratic beylik family in Ottoman Albania, Zogolli was active in Albanian politics from a young age and fought on the side of Austria-Hungary during the First World War. In 1922, he adopted the name Ahmed Zogu. June Revolution
The June Revolution () was a popular uprising in Albania that temporarily overthrew the Zogist regime following the 1923 Albanian parliamentary election and the assassination of popular Albanian activist and politician Avni Rustemi. The Parliament of Albania () or Kuvendi is the unicameral representative body of the citizens of the Republic of Albania; it is Albania's legislature. The Parliament is composed of no less than 140 members elected to a four-year term on the basis of direct, universal, periodic and equal suffrage by secret ballot. Enrico Tellini
Enrico Tellini (25 August 1871 – 27 August 1923) was an Italian general whose assassination provoked the Corfu incident of 1923. Biography Enrico Tellini was born in Castelnuovo di Garfagnana in the province of Lucca in Tuscany. After a childhood in Florence and enlistment in the Italian army he enrolled in classes at a local military college in Florence. In 1901 he was promoted to the rank of major. Koço Muka
Koço Muka (1895 - 21 November 1954) was an Albanian politician, lawyer and Minister of Education in 1944. Biography He was born in 1895 in Himara. He attended and graduated from the Zosimaia School in Ioannina and then studied law in Istanbul at Dar al-Huk. In 1916 he started working as a notary in Himara. He then became a military officer in the period 1920-1924 and even became the district commander of the Gjirokastër gendarmerie.
