Koeut Rith
Koeut Rith ( km, កើត រិទ្ធ; born 2 January 1979) is a Cambodian legal expert and the current Minister of Justice. Biography Youth on the banks of the Mekong Koeut Rith was born on January 2, 1979, in the last days of the Khmer Rouge regime in the village of Prey Toteung, Prey Chhor District, Kampong Cham Province, Cambodia (then-Central Region, Democratic Kampuchea). Legal studies in Cambodia and France In 1999, when Koeut Rith started his law studies in Phnom Penh, Koeut Rith obtained a scholarship allowing him to continue his higher education in France, in Lyon. Prison Overcrowding
Prison overcrowding is a social phenomenon occurring when the demand for space in prisons in a jurisdiction exceeds the capacity for prisoners. The issues associated with prison overcrowding are not new, and have been brewing for many years. During the United States' War on Drugs, the states were left responsible for solving the prison overcrowding issue with a limited amount of money. Moreover, federal prison populations may increase if states adhere to federal policies, such as mandatory minimum sentences. On the other hand, the Justice Department provides billions of dollars a year for state and local law enforcement to ensure they follow the policies set forth by the federal government concerning U.S. prisons. Cambodia–Vietnam Border
The Cambodia–Vietnam border is the international border between the territory of Cambodia and Vietnam. The border is 1,158 km (720 m) in length and runs from the tripoint with Laos in the north to Gulf of Thailand in the south. Description The border starts in the north at the tripoint with Laos and then proceeds overland to the south, occasionally utilising rivers such as the Tonlé San. Rong Chhun
Rong Chhun (born 1969 in Talon, Kandal) is a Cambodian trade unionist and political activist. He is the president of the Cambodian Confederation of Unions and has been imprisoned several times for his work. Biography Chhun was born in Talon commune, Kandal Province, in 1969, as the fourth of five siblings. In 1993, he graduated from the Royal University of Phnom Penh with a bachelor's degree in mathematics. He then began teaching at a high school in Talon. He formed the Cambodian Independent Teachers' Association (CITA) in March 2000, together with more than 30 other teachers, to organise for better pay and more rights. Norodom Sihamoni ( km, នរោត្តម សីហមុនី, ; born 14 May 1953) is King of Cambodia. He became King on 14 October 2004, a week after the abdication of his father, Norodom Sihanouk. He is the eldest son of Norodom Sihanouk and former Queen Consort Norodom Monineath and was Cambodia's ambassador to UNESCO, prior to his selection by a nine-member throne council to become the next king.
