Holmger Knutsson
Holmger Knutsson (1210s – 1248) was a Swedish nobleman and a claimant to the Swedish throne during the reign of King Eric XI of Sweden. His tomb cover showed two Coats of Arms: one is known to have been used by his father, the other is that of the House of Bjelbo. It is could thus be considered likely that his mother came from that family, though it has also been claimed by Lagerqvist and others that she was Helena Pedersdatter Strange. Holmger Knutsson was the eldest son of King Canute II of Sweden. At his father's death in 1234, Holmger seems to have been on his way to be the new king, but he was side-tracked by ''Jarl'' Ulf Fase and earlier King Eric XI who had been exiled in Denmark since 1229. Holmger's whereabouts after that are not known, but it has been speculated that he held Gästrikland north of Uppland for the next thirteen years. Together with ''folkungs,'' Holmger made an unsuccessful attempt for the crown in 1247. The Battle of Sparrsätra took place in U ...

Charles VIII Of Sweden
Charles VIII ( sv, Karl; 1408–1470), contemporaneously known as Charles II and called Charles I in Norwegian context, was king of Sweden (1448–1457, 1464–1465 and 1467–1470) and king of Norway (1449–1450). Regnal name Charles was the second Swedish king by the name of Charles (Karl). ''Charles VIII'' is a posthumous invention, counting backwards from Charles IX (r. 1604–1611) who adopted his numeral according to a fictitious history of Sweden. Six others before Charles VII are unknown to any sources before Johannes Magnus's 16th century book ', and are considered his invention. Charles was the first Swedish monarch of the name to actually use a regnal number as ''Charles II'' (later retrospectively renumbered VIII), on his wife's tombstone (1451) at Vadstena. Early life Karl Knutsson was born in October 1408 or 1409, at Ekholmen Castle, the son of Knut Tordsson (Bonde), knight and member of the privy council (''riksråd''), and Margareta Karlsdotter (Sparre av To ...

Eric X Of Sweden
Eric "X" (Swedish: ''Erik Knutsson''; Old Norse: ''Eiríkr Knútsson''; – 10 April 1216) was the King of Sweden between 1208 and 1216. Also known as ''Eric the Survivor'' (Swedish: "Erik som överlevde"), he was, at his accession to the throne, the only remaining son of King Canute I of Sweden and his queen. The name of his mother is not known, but may have been Cecilia. Struggles for the throne Nothing is known about his youth, but he may have been born around 1180 in Eriksberg royal manor. When Eric's father, King Canute I, died peacefully in 1195 or 1196, his four sons were youthful but not children. One of them had been hailed as heir to the throne by the grandees of the kingdom when Canute was still alive. In spite of the precautions of King Canute, his sons were passed over in favour of Sverker Karlsson, the head of the rival dynasty of the Sverkers. Perhaps this was due ...
