Knowle, Bristol
Knowle is a district and wards of the United Kingdom, council ward in the south east of the city of Bristol in England, United Kingdom. It is bordered by Filwood Park to the west, Brislington to the east, Whitchurch, Bristol, Whitchurch and Hengrove to the south and Totterdown to the north. The settlement was mentioned in the Domesday Book as ''Canole''. Knowle comes from the old English word for hillock, which means a little hill. Broadwalk shopping centre provides a number of shopping and leisure facilities, plus the local library. Further amenities are located along Wells Road, which runs through Knowle from Totterdown, Bristol, Totterdown to Whitchurch, and on Broadwalk, a tree lined boulevard that heads westwards towards Filwood. Knowle St Giles is a village and civil parish in the South Somerset district of Somerset, England, situated on the River Isle south of Ilminster and north east of Chard. The village has a population of 244. The parish includes the village of Cricket Malherbie. Knowle Stadium
The Knowle Stadium was a greyhound racing and speedway venue in Bristol. Origins In March 1924 fifteen acres of land on Wells Road, in the Knowle area of Bristol was secured by Albert Ford, chairman of the Bristol Greyhound Club. A stadium was constructed capable of holding 15,000 spectators. The site was on the west side of Wells Road and originally accessed off Back Lane (now Petherton Road). Opening Racing started on 23 July 1927 and gave the city its first taste of greyhound racing, (Eastville Stadium did not start racing until June 1928). The grand opening attracted 8,000 people who saw a greyhound called Plunger win the first race. Fifty-five meetings on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays were held in the inaugural year of 1927 overseen by Ford, and attendances fluctuated, but on several occasions there would be over 10,000 turning up to watch the new sport. Knowle Hill () is a hill in the Chew Valley, Somerset, England situated between the village of Chew Magna and Chew Valley Lake. The south side of the summit of Knowle Hill is home to the grass Wood Small-reed (''Calamagrostis epigejos''). The population of this plant forms a circular patch some 20 metres wide, which is visible from Bishop Sutton 1.2 km south across Hollow Brook. It has been suggested that this patch is a single clone which has spread by means of underground rhizomes, and may be 200 years old. Knole
Knole () is a country house and former archbishop's palace owned by the National Trust. It is situated within Knole Park, a park located immediately to the south-east of Sevenoaks in west Kent. The house ranks in the top five of England's largest houses, under any measure used, occupying a total of four acres. The current house dates back to the mid-15th century, with major additions in the 16th and, particularly, the early 17th centuries. Its grade I listing reflects its mix of late-medieval to Stuart structures and particularly its central façade and state rooms. In 2019 an extensive conservation project, "Inspired by Knole", was completed to restore and develop the structures of the buildings and thus help to conserve its important collections. Julian Knowle (born 29 April 1974) is an Austrian former male professional tennis player. Being a born left-hander, Knowle was one of the few on the ATP Tour who played his forehand, backhand, and even volleys double-handed. He was Austria's most successful doubles player in history by reaching world no. 6 in the ATP doubles rankings in January 2008, before being matched by Jürgen Melzer, who reached no. 6 in September 2010, and overtaken by Alexander Peya, who reached no. 3 in August 2013. Knowle West
Knowle West is a neighbourhood situated on a low plateau in the south of Bristol, England, about 2 miles (3 km) from the centre of the city. Historically in Somerset, most of the area is coterminous with the Filwood ward of Bristol City Council, although a small part of the estate lies within Knowle ward to the east. To the west are Bishopsworth and Hartcliffe. To the north are Bedminster and Windmill Hill and to the south Whitchurch Park and Hengrove. In 2008 the population was estimated to be 11,787. The area is approximately . There is evidence of late Iron Age and Roman settlements in the area. Knowle is a large village situated 3 miles (5 km) east-southeast of the town of Solihull, West Midlands, England. Knowle lies within the Arden area of the historic county boundaries of Warwickshire, and since 1974 it has been part of the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull within the West Midlands. It lies 2.5 miles from the Warwickshire border and had a recorded population of 10,678. Knowle is in the parliamentary constituency of Meriden.
