The Art Of War
''The Art of War'' is an ancient Chinese military treatise dating from the late Spring and Autumn period (roughly 5th century BC). The work, which is attributed to the ancient Chinese military strategist Sun Tzu ("Master Sun"), is composed of 13 chapters. Each one is devoted to a different set of skills or art related to warfare and how it applies to military strategy and tactics. For almost 1,500 years, it was the lead text in an anthology that was formalized as the Seven Military Classics by Emperor Shenzong of Song in 1080. ''The Art of War'' remains the most influential strategy text in East Asian warfare and has influenced both East Asian and Western military theory and thinking. The book contains a detailed explanation and analysis of the 5th-century BC Chinese military, from weapons, environmental conditions, and strategy to rank and discipline. Sun also stressed the importance of intelligence operatives and espionage to the war effort. Considered one of histor ...

Know Your Enemy (Manic Street Preachers Album)
''Know Your Enemy'' is the sixth studio album by Welsh alternative rock band Manic Street Preachers, released on 19 March 2001 by Epic Records. It was supported by four singles, all of which reached the top 20 of the UK Singles Chart. The band originally envisioned ''Know Your Enemy'' as two separate albums with very different sounds and concepts, with the intention of releasing both on the same day. However, the record label vetoed the idea and a compromise was made, resulting in a single, lengthy, very diverse record. Whilst the album sold well, it did not match the success of its predecessor, '' This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours''. Critics were somewhat divided in their opinions at first, but its reception since has been more positive. In 2022, the band released remixed and expanded 2- and 3-disc editions of ''Know Your Enemy'', rearranging the tracks into the two separate albums as originally intended. Background Drummer Sean Moore stated in an interview with a Spanish r ...

Know Your Enemy (Green Day Song)
"Know Your Enemy" is a protest song by American rock band Green Day. It is the third track on their eighth album, '' 21st Century Breakdown'', and it was released as the lead single through Reprise Records on April 16, 2009, and the group's first single since " Jesus of Suburbia", released 4 years earlier. ''Billboard'' described the song as being lyrically "just as politically charged as last time (on '' American Idiot'')", having a "Modern Rock radio-ready chorus", whilst the song's producer Butch Vig "brings enough punk sheen for mass appeal." It was the first, and one of only three songs, to top the Rock Songs, Alternative Songs and Mainstream Rock Tracks ''Billboard'' charts at the same time. "Know Your Enemy" has been certified Gold by the RIAA and has sold 798,000 copies as of August 2010. Release and reception It was referred to by ''Spin'' as sounding "like an out-take from the '' Dookie'' sessions". About.com's Bill Lamb said the song was "standard issue Green Day", "not a ...

Know Your Enemy (Rage Against The Machine Song)
"Know Your Enemy" is a song by American rock band Rage Against the Machine. It features Tool vocalist Maynard James Keenan on vocals during the bridge section, and Jane's Addiction drummer Stephen Perkins playing additional percussion. ''Allmusic'' describes the song as "immediately memorable" and "surprisingly straightforward" while music critic Joel McIver cited it as "a standout track" of the album. "Know Your Enemy" had received significant radio airplay by 1993, despite never being released as an official single. Background The song's main riffs were written by Tim Commerford on an acoustic bass. The bridge features Maynard James Keenan's vocals; Perry Farrell was asked to sing the part but his absence led to it being given to former Rage lead vocalist candidate Keenan instead. The album version is not the same as the demo version. The original is over 30 seconds shorter with no singing, uses distortion under the guitar solo without any 32nd notes or whammy pedal, and i ...
