Knittelfeld Putsch
Knittelfeld Putsch refers to a conference of the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) which took place on 7 September 2002 in the small Austrian town of Knittelfeld, Styria, called due to political differences within the party leadership. The events resulted in early federal elections in the same year. Background Following the 1999 elections, the FPÖ became part of a coalition government led by ÖVP leader Wolfgang Schüssel, despite the FPÖ having garnered the larger number of votes. During the summer of 2002, tension rose within the FPÖ, following losses in several local elections. Jörg Haider, former FPÖ leader and still '' Landeshauptmann'' of Carinthia, called for changes in government policy to reinvigorate the party's popularity, especially a tax reform. Andi (Andreas) Siebenhofer, born on 7 January 1977 in Knittelfeld, Styria, Austria is a former Austrian extreme sports athlete and entrepreneur. Life Siebenhofer grew up in a working-class family in Kobenz, near the Styrian city of Knittelfeld. At the age of 16, he became an extreme sports athlete. He also began an apprenticeship and worked 7 years as an engineer/train driver for the ÖBB (Austrian Federal Railway). Extreme Sport 2000, first world record: From 8 April until 22 May, he initially climbed the Huascarán without any outside help. With its 6,785 meters, it is the highest mountain in Peru. Gert Hofbauer
Gert Hofbauer (born 13 March 1937 in Knittelfeld, Styria, died 4 August 2017 in Marz) was an Austrian conductor and trumpeter. Born in Knittelfeld, Hofbauer studied the trumpet in Graz in 1958 and in 1960 at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna in Austria. He had his first engagements as a trumpet player in 1962 at the Mozarteum Orchestra of Salzburg and in 1964 in the Lower Austrian Tonkünstler Orchestra, playing the first trumpet. During his time in the orchestras he also completed his conductor studies with Professor Richard Österreicher (1969). In 1971 seventy-five of the best musicians from all large orchestral societies in Vienna close ranks and formed the Vienna Hofburg Orchestra under the direction of Hofbauer as conductor. Harald "Hari" Proczyk (born 9 November 1975) is an Austrian racing driver currently competing in the TCR International Series. Having previously competed in the ADAC TCR Germany Series, Blancpain Sprint Series & ADAC GT Masters amongst others. Racing career Touring Cars Proczyk began his career in 1998 in the German Citroën Saxo Cup, he raced there for two seasons finishing 2nd in the standings both years, before switching to the German Touring Car Challenge. Lizzi Waldmüller
Lizzi Waldmüller (25 May 1904 in Knittelfeld, Styria – 8 April 1945 in Vienna) was an Austrian singer and actress whose breakthrough to stardom came through her role as Rachel in the Willi Forst movie ''Bel Ami'' in 1939. Waldmüller had her theatre debut in Innsbruck in the 1920s, before finding success in Graz, Vienna and eventually abroad - in Germany. She became renowned through the Paul Lincke song 'Ich bin die Frau, von der man spricht' (I am the woman they're talking about). At the beginning of the 1930s, she played supporting roles next to stars such as Heinz Rühmann, Hans Albers and her husband Max Hansen, whom she divorced in 1938. She died on 8 April 1945 in an air raid in Vienna, Austria, a month before the end of World War II.
